You can try using something like brake clean and spraying both the shaft and internal socket and then wiping with a paper towel. next move the table out of the way and place the shaft back into the socket with the chuck jaws retracted take a block of wood and a hammer and "tap" seat the tapers together. I would "tap" it a couple times and this should work if they are not worn excessively.

The bolt broke off in the crankshaft on the PTO on my Cub Cadet LT1042 I drilled it out off centered , how do I have it welded & rethreaded ?

the news will not what you want to read but ---
the cost to do hat will be more than the motor is worth
welding the hole up will be a disaster as the weld will not go down the hole but simply weld over the top
next to drill the hole if you were successful in the welding would need the shaft to placed in a lathe so that it could be drilled dead center and the thread in installed straight in
I would suggest that you get the price of a shaft from a mower shop or from a mower wreckers or get the price of a new motor and then make a decision from there

Can't remove bit

Remove the ring clip which holds the chuck outer sleeve in place and take out the washer and spring, the outer sleeve should now slide off, under the sleeve you will find two steel balls in the holes of the driver shaft, remove them (use a magnet if they won't come out easily) you should be able to get the bit out now, if not clamp the bit in a vice and using a soft face hammer strike the end of the driver shaft to release the bit. Note: dismantle the chuck over a cloth in case the balls fall out so you don't loose them

Operating tips for a drill press

the drill press shaft has a taper in the end and a slot in the side The chuck you will use will have a taper in the back and the adaptor will be tapered to fit in the shaft. The slot is to put in a tapered drift to remove the chuck assembly so that larger drills with tapered shanks can be used. Most twist drills stop at 1/2 inch but reduced shank drills are available with 1/2 ''shank but a bit size up to say 3/4'' After that you will need taper shank drills.. If the drill shaft has a hole from top to bottom you can use special router bits that allow for ma threaded rod to hold them in during milling otherwise the chuck will vibrate and come loose and fall out. It is essential to select the right speed for the drill size being used and I have found that by using combination vices that allow the job to be moved in - out and side ways the jobs you can do are limited by your imagination

How to remove a screw with no head

Instructions 1 Use a center punch to put a deep hole right in the center of the screw shaft. This step is just so you have a starting place for the drill to begin. Tapping a thin nail into the center can sometimes work. 2 Start with a very small drill bit and drill a hole down into the shaft. Once that's complete, go to the next size of bit and drill a little larger opening in the screw shaft. Stop when the hole is big enough to use an easy-out tool in it. 3 Turn the tool gently. You never want to be rough in this step, lest you break the easy-out. Keep turning until the screw shaft is out. The tool is designed to grip the interior of the screw shaft and turn it as you turn the handle. 4 Remove the easy-out if the screw shaft is being stubborn and still won't come out. You definitely don't want to break the easy-out off in the hole. 5 Continue to use the drill, each time enlarging the hole until only the threads are left. 6 Peel away the threads of the screw with a large plastic headed pin. Pull them out of the threads of the opening.

Sheared Bolt Head on Boat Propeller Housing

need more detailed info like year make model bolt location? the reason, I would know how long and wide the bolt is that is broken off. Typically when a bolt gets broken you have several steps to follow and two tools to purchase to get broken bolt out. 1st The best tools to purchase and will save you a lot of headache is a reverse drill bit kit with easy outs. They are expensive but well worth the cost. With every drill bit the kit will have a easy out to match. I myself have a large kit that I use weekly because of salt water engines. Make sure you get a high quality set (snap-on, mac tool etc..) because if it breaks off you have double the work. 2nd small chisel pick and punches. (1) Take a center punch and hammer and dent the bolt for a starting point for your drill bit. (2)Again if I knew the location of the bolt I would know how big it is. Because you have to stop drilling at a certain depth so you don’t drill into the case. If you have another bolt you have taken out of the case that you believe is the same length, measure it and drill only half the length of the bolt. (3)You want a small drill bit to start, about half the size of the Circumference of the bolt. Remember these are reverse drill bits so put your drill in reverse and go very slow with light pressure. Let the Drill bit do the work. (4) use a spray lubricate like WD-40 to keep the drill bit and bolt cool, to much heat will dull you drill bit. These bolts are stainless steel so it will be a long time before you get a decent hole. (5) What I hope happens, when I’m using the drill bit is that the drill bit catches enough of the bolt and turns it out as I’m drilling. But with rusted bolts it’s a rare occasion . When you come to the stopping point of your hole clean it out and use the easy out that comes with the kit. You do not want to break the easy out in the hole so use light turning pressure. If it doesn’t come out with light pressure You need to stop and go to the next step.(6) Take the next size drill bit out of the case and start drilling again slowly with lubricant. When you reach the stopping point use the matching easy out.(7) keep following these steps until you get almost to the full diameter of the bolt. Remember bolt threads are male to a female thread inside the hole so you don’t want to drill out the threads inside the hole. (8) if you reach the female thread inside the hole and the bolt still hasn’t come out use the chisel pick softly to clean the tread inside the hole. At this point you will need to purchase one more tool. A thread tap. Take a matching bolt and match diameter and thread pitch and clean out the treads that may have been damaged with the chisel pick.(9) when the job is finally done and your ready to put the housing back on use as gasket sealing compound on all your bolt to protect them from rust do not use thread locking compounds. Have fun.

How far do you put a bit in to know it's placed correctly. I'm trying to surprise my husband by removing some kitchen cabinets, but I'm not sure I put the bit in right and I don't know how to make the...

Find the reverse switch near the trigger. Press one direction for forward, in the middle is a trigger lock and the other direction is reverse. Dont surprize yourself and have the cabinet fall on you.

If you have short bits, put about 1/2 of it into the chuck. If you have long bits (about 2 inches long), put about 1/2 inch of it into the chuck.

Be aware that when the drill runs in reverse, the chuck tends to loosen and when that happens, your bit will fall out.

If Hubby has a bit holder, I'd suggest you use that and place the bit into the bit holder. Makes for a better reach.

Good luck on your project.

Hole is to Small

It's actually quite simple, all you need is a drill and the right size or drill bit.
Choose a drill bit a about the size of the hole required, if you are not sure, choose a smaller size, it's easier to make a hole bigger.

Take apart the old knobs, from the inside of the cupboard, use the drill make the old holes bigger.

Attach the new knobs.

Congratulations, you did it :-)
