I have a Chefmate Mini Fridge - BC-50A that does not work. It appears the heat sink fan and the cold sink fan do not have power to the motor. What do I do? nicole.barnes@parknicollet.com

It could be the thermostat is not switching them on, try changing the settings on them, if it still dont work you may need new thermostats fitted,

the circuit board is complicated.... mine was blown somehow, so I just cut loose the red and black wires to the cooling diode and put 12 volts DC to them.... they cooled OK, so next I tried the 3 fans.... same deal, connect the red to plus 12 and the black to minus 12. One fan may be yellow (plus) and black (minus). The fans ran OK also. So I just soldered everything up, threw out the circuit board and got rid of the AC cord. Now I have a 12 volt DC fridge that draws about 2 amps from my battery charger, and cools down to 54 degrees, about the limit of this solid-state technology. I may try it in the camper on the battery.

I have done the same thing using a pair of 12 volt DC power converters a 2 amp converter for the TEC And a 1.5 amp for the Fans and light

My Black & Decker bna17b mini fridge simply does not cool enough. The manual claims it should get down to 37 degrees Fahrenheit in a 70 degree room. I put the setting on high (coldest) and my milk...

Sorry Brian & Charles, but you missed the boat on this one.
This Black & Decker refrigerator uses Peltier Thermo-electric modules on heat sinks. If you blow off the dust and the unit still does not cool, these modules have probably gone bad.

The heat sinks/modules attach to the back of the fridge with two screws each. Unplug the power, remove the screws and then remove the heat sink/cooling fan units. On the refrigerator side will be a smooth plate with two wires coming out of it. Plug the fridge in and touch this plate. If it is not cold to the touch, your Peltier module is bad. You can buy new ones for about $20 each - Parts Express has the Velleman brand Peltier 2 model. But seriously, you'd probably be better off just buying a new fridge.

Will not cool light does not come on when door is open Chefmate Model: BC-50A

unplug, take the back cover off.
Look at the circuit board.
at the top right of the board there is a fuse.
if it is blown, the frige is dead.
you will probily find that there is a brown burn mark
on the upper left side of the circuit board under an aluminum
heat sink. that electronic part probily overheated and blew up.
unless your electronics skils are up to it throw the frige away.
but if you are up to it unsolder it, bring it to frys electronics, and
get a new one. Good luck.

Chefmate mini fridge no more

OK If this is a U-line refrigerator. Is the compressor running? The Fan? If both are running then you will have a sealed system issue. If nothing is running then it goes to the thermostat. Bypass the 2 wires from the thermostat to see if it runs.Yes, then replace the thermostat.

(1.7 cu) Chefmate Fridge Doesn't Get Cold

The Chefmate 1.7 fridge uses a thermalelectric device (TED) to provide cold air. There are no moving parts there. The problem is usually in the power supply. That is the PCB on the left side behind the back cover. If the fans are running then your thermostat is bad or the TED is cracked. You can buy these ebay or other places on line. To change one you must carefully remove the large heat sink. The TED itself is only about two inches square. If you decide to replace this unit be sure to get a supply of heat sink glue. Otherwise you will end up with a hot (or cold) spot on the TED possitly causing another crack.

Chefmate RS-06DR mini Fridge (1.6 Cubic Feet)

My chefmate is **** because the internal fan is garbage, its cheap, it doesn't work or give enough flow, try a higher flow unit. You can get the 12v at tigerdirect.com with some high flow (AND LIGHTS :) ) for a few bucks to save your 100 dollar investment. The removal of the orig fan is easy. The evap is a good setup, but the cooling setup for it seems to be sh*t. Cheap fans = cheap setup and this is why everyone hates these units cause it can't pump the goods.

For the record my fan died, so my evap and fan froze over completely and spoiled my food and burned out the fan completely and probably helped to short it. I can get it going if I flicker the fan with my finger but she is dead and can't catch naturally. You could replace the chefmate fan with most computer fans too... fyi if you got a junk tower laying around.

While your at it clean the fans on the back and take off the back panel which kicks out the hot air from the hot flow. It helps if your unit is older (a year plus+ in a dorm is like 4 in a clean house lol)
