My LG 42 inch Plasma Powers on and off by itself

Powers on and off by itself, then eventually just dies. Have had it serviced at least 4 times in the last 2 months

It sounds like a bad main PCB and/or a bad control PCB. Most shops carry at least a 30 day warranty on there work unless you still have factory warranty. Call them back out. Thanks for using fixya.

I have a LG 42 inch plasma that turned off and doesnt want to turn back on. im thinking is the sensor is there anyone that can help out with this problem?

If you can turn it on with the button on the unit itself then it may be the IR sensor, but if you can't turn it on then it is very unlikely the sensor.

The power supply board of the 42PG20-UA is a known source of exactly this problem, although definitely not the only one that could possibly cause it.

Below is a link for a repair of the board, but the listing also contains a link to an article on how to test the power supply board alone, which is pretty useful before spending time and money sending it for repair. If anything you can rule one board out:

I have a LG 42PG20D with a one inch brite white stripe, going from top to bottom about 3/4 along the screen on the right side

That vertical stripe is not fixable in plasma TVs.
Well, easily 99% of them.
The reason is that what goes bad is actually embedded in the display itself and not subject to servicing or replacement.
1% , possibly less, of the plasma TVs out there have that part outside of the display and as such subject to replacement.
Sorry for the new and please do not kill the messenger!

The screen on my 4 yr old 42 inch LG plasma keeps

I believe that you are experiencing an intermittent problem with what's called your florescent lamp ballast. The best thing is that it can be repaired/fix. There should be a LG repair shop in your area. Cheaper to bring it in than have a service tech come to your residence.
Should be between $200 to $300 for a repair.
