Sadly these suggestions did not work. My USB ports work (1.0, but they work for my iPod and other devices.) I tried uninstalling the driver (not sure if it was successful) and re-inserting the flash drive - but the computer never indicated it was re-installing the device driver.

One more tidbit I forgot; the device was working fine. I loaned it to a friend to upload a ppt file and when I received the flash drive back, the flash drive then gave me this error. This is somewhat time sensitive since I'm travelling, so please don't be offended if you are unavailable and I have to use a different expert. Regardless, thank you for your time and assistance.

I have a USB 2.0 PNY 4GB mini-drive. It was working fine, then I loaned it to a friend to upload a ppt file. When I received the flash drive back, I plugged it into a functioning USB port. The computer recognized the flash drive as a a Removable Disk, Drive E:. When I clicked on Drive E:, I received a window instructing me to insert a disk in Drive E:

I've tried uninstalling/re-installing the driver, but I am not sure it was done properly. I've gone to the control panel and the add new hardware function was unable to detect this flash drive as new hardware. I've plugged the drive into a different USB with no success. I've restarted the computer with the drive plugged in during the restart. All of these things have apparently failed....any ideas?

Try your usb in different usb ports.
Connect it to computer then when you power up the computer press F8 key then enter in safe mode.
Then check .
Also right click on my computer then click on manage then click on disk management or removable storage thne you can see your drive there.
Right click on it then explorer.

Hello, and welcome to Fixya.

Thank you for asking your question here.

There are a few things to try first.

One, try going to the control panel, add hardware, and seeing if your computer can detect the drive.. (if it does, let it install the drivers it needs to read it)

Two, try restarting your computer, with the drive plugged in the whole time.

Three.. try using a different usb port, sometimes they go bad, and if you have multiple usb ports, try all of them individually.

If none of this helps , please get back to me and i can suggest a few other things..

Sometimes when a flash memory stick fails because it was not removed from the USB port properly. If the device is removed by just pulling it out of the USB port, it can cause the flash device to fail, you must click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Task Bar and select the device you wish to remove and only do so when instructed to do so.

When the flash memory device appears to malfunction it maybe possible to restore it by reformatting it. Insert the flash drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Healthy.

You need to format the external drive. Format the drive as primary drive and in FAT32. (FAT32 will allow data to be exchanged between MACs and PCs).

When I put my DaneElec 4GB USB Drive into my USB port, nothing happens. We have Vista.

Do other USB devices work when you plug them in the USB port?
If they don't then you have a faulty USB port otherwise the DaneElec is faulty or needs formatting.

I have a PNY 4GB high speed USB Drive. I want to

Well, the easy way would be to do this

But if you want to use the USB drive just insert it into an open USB port
  1. click Start
  2. click My Computer
  3. Select the USB drive from the list of connected drives
  4. Click and drag the files from their location to the USB drive
To get them to the other computer follow steps 1-3, then click and drag them from the USB drive to their new location.

PNY Attache USB (4GB pen drive) not recognized by WinXP SP3

Your USB memory should be damaged. i have a Centon DataStickPro 4GB that was OK but now i have the same problem. If you know HOW you can try re-format on DOS, but be careful with your harddrive.

By the way, 3885 MB are 3.7GB or so.....

You can try buying another one, SAME MODEL, then the same/next day return the BAD ONE to the store and get your money back.
