Where you need to see your hitachi first is from within your bios. Windows will not see your drive if the bios does not. Recheck your connections. Clean the connections if needed with a clean cotton stick & a fine bit of alcohol by sliding left to right across the copper contacts.

On bootup win xp does not read hard drive... even a known good one. "cant find OS" even though it detects the drive is there in F2 I have even been able to format the HD. My question is .... Is...

Sounds like it might be a motherboard issue BUT the best thing to do is to put a known good working hard drive in that computer and try installing Windows from the cd. If it can't install then the motherboard is bad more then likely. You can also try swapping out memory and trying it in different slots as well. If somebody tried flashing the BIOS and the computer got shut off by accident, that can screw up a BIOS and render the computer useless.

I have LatitudeD510 and my disk makes lot of noise. Its on Windows7 and I think the disk is a Hitachi - HTS541040G9AT00

chances are that you simply do not have the resources to run windows 7. These are the basic (recommended minimum), for windows 7

  • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor.
  • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit).
  • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit).
  • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
  • 1 more GB of RAM & 15 GB more HDD space to run 7 in XP Mode.

These are the typical resources that come with your machine.

  • Processor Pentium M 1.73 GHz
  • Ram Installed Size 512.0 MB
  • Technology DDR2 SDRAM
  • Hard Drive 40.0 GB

  • OS Provided Microsoft Windows XP Professional
It would probably be advisable to go back to XP
Good luck

Sir i am trying to install windows 7 on my pc pentium 4 2.80 Ghz 1250 mb ram 80 gb hdd but driver cant install plz help me

When this happens in windows 7, try downloading drivers from the motherboards website for Windows Vista drivers.
Run the setup and experience the Drivers working.

If not.. Install drivergenius + run driver update from internet and enjoy.

Good luck
