There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

My Olevia LT37HVS will work fine for a while then all of a sudden shut off. It's only 3 years old...Doesn't stay on all day/night. What could be the problem?

Most LCD TV breaks down after 2~3 years, even if the TV is turn off, the power supply and the processor are running 24/7 when it is plug into the outlet. Any surges and spike that come along in the last 3 years, you TV will affected by them.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:

I have the same issue. Bought the TV 1/08 and it started showing those exact symptoms about 3-4 months ago. It generally progresses and gets worse. You can try to fix it as it's some kind of TAB connector issue, or keep calling Sony so that the 52" owners of the XBR4 and 5 series get the extended warranty just like the 46" owners received for the same series. If enough of us keep calling, they'll have to act.

Our Olevia is less than 2 years old and the screen just goes black at random times. You have to cut it off and then cut it back on.

It can be the backlight inverter board is going out or the power supply that supplys the 24vdc to the inverter board is going out. I would look at the power supply first for bad capacitors,

Olevia 37 lcdtv has to warm up be repowere for picture to display

It's your power supply. have it taken care of ASAP before damage happens on the board where it can't be repaired, just replaced, "if they can find one".
