Question about HP Photosmart C5180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

I put a color cartridge into my C5180 printer and it continues to tell me to change the cartridge. I have tried 3 different ones with same results. What is happening, since it is not the cartridges?

Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

I received an out of ink/need to replace yellow ink cartridge. message. Although I replaced it with a new cartridge, the printer is not acknowledging that I have changed it and continues to say I need...

I'am facing the same problem. I have no idea of any effective solution. Actually I have tried everything that is mentioned in several threads on the net: different types of the printer reset, CMOS reset as well, but without luck. I'm afraid it won't print in colour anymore. It all comes down to some electronic issue I guess. That's why I'm not able to cope with it.

Claims the yellow cartridge is empty, when it is new and will not print in color

Reinstall the Printer driver, Run the program to clean the writing head of the printer, and check for the difference to be seen. If still not resolved, try to run a printer check which will plot all combination of colors and will tell you the problem with the printer. Meanwhile let me ask you if there is any error message shown while printing or after the printing ?

Two of colors doesn't work I've changed them and the printer tells me that they are 100 % full but no color is coming from them.

This could be a number of things. The head may need a clean (perhaps a more thorough clean than the printers standard head clean facility) or the cartridges may be faulty.

I have a printer HP c5180 all in one, only have black ink , not color, i dont want print in color . can I use the printer black and white (not color) only?

You can go into the print properties and set it to print black only, however if any of the color cartridges are empty the printer may not print until you replace whichever cartridge is empty.

Ink cartridge refill

Was there a sticker over the holes? One way I usually find out is by looking at the bottom of the sticker to see the color residue.

Pictures are cloudy now.

I tried cleaning the printhead 3 times in a row and it made a huge difference. Don't give up after cleaning it just once if it doesn't make a difference. it wasn't until after the 3rd time that i actually saw a big difference. It's back pretty close to normal now. Hope this helps someone else.

Complete the following steps to resolve this issue.
Step one: Check the printin grayscale setting
If the self test page printed in color, the ink cartridgesare okay, and the ink levels are well above empty, the printer software hasprobably been set to print in grayscale. Follow the steps below to check thissetting:
  1. In the software application you are trying to print from, click File, then Print. The Print dialog opens.
  2. Make sure your printer is selected, then click Preferences. The printer Preferences dialog opens.
  3. Select the Color tab, then make sure that Print in grayscale is not selected.
  4. Try the print job again to see if this step resolved the issue.
    • If the issue is resolved, you do not need to continue with the rest of the instructions on this page.
    • If the issue is not resolved, continue to the next step.
Step two: Check the inkcartridges
NOTE:- HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HPink.
  1. Check the ink cartridges to determine if they have been refilled. If they have been refilled, try replacing them with genuine HP ink cartridges.
  2. Try the print job again to see if this step resolved the issue. If the issue is not resolved, continue to the next step.
Step three: Check inklevels
Replace any empty print cartridges.
  1. Press Setup .
  2. Press clip_image001.gifto select Tools , then press OK .
  3. Select Display Ink Gauge and press OK . The ink levels are displayed.

    • Each icon corresponds to the cartridge that is the color of the icon. The icons are also in the same order, from left to right, as the cartridges in the printer.
    • If an icon is empty, the corresponding cartridge may need to be replaced soon.
    • The ink levels in non-HP, refilled, and remanufactured cartridges cannot be read by the printer. Instead of an icon, a question mark is displayed for these cartridges. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP ink. Printer service or repairs required as a result of printer failure or damage attributable to the use of non-HP ink will not be covered under warranty.
  1. Try the print job again to see if this step resolved the issue. If the issue is not resolved , continue to the next step.
Step four: Service theproduct
If you have completed all the steps listed above and arestill experiencing a problem, service the product.

Can you set default to print using only black ink?

Wow, what an incredibly unhelpful answer. Thanks, HP shill.

The answer is no. Selling ink is how printer companies make money, and they will do everything possible to make you buy more ink, even when you don't need it.
