Hello. I have a problem that no one has seemed to be able to help me with. All i get is a dumbfounded look or scratch on the head. I have a Garmin Nuvi 780 GPS for the car. I do not have a cigarette...

Hi JoAnn, What you really need is a cigarette lighter socket in your car and this doesn't have to be a big problem. In most car accessory shops you can get cigarette lighter socket splitters, like the one at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-Cigarette-Lighter-Splitter-Adaptor/dp/B003TNYK7Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1301407423&sr=8-1

Now I know these are supposed to plug into your cigarette lighter socket but you can remove the plug from the end of it and get wired directly to the fuse board of your car. The wire that goes to the centre tip of the plug connects to the positive/fuse of the fuse board and the wire that's connected to the outer part of the plug connects directly to an unpainted metal part of the car. You can do this by loosening a bolt, wrapping the wire around it and tightening it again. The block with the sockets on it can be either glued with double sided tape to a convenient part of your car interior or left loose if you prefer.

If you're not happy wiring it directly yourself it should not cost a lot to get done in a garage. If I was in your position that's what I'd do.

Battery on my garmin c510 sat nan wount hold a charge how easy is it to change

Had the same problem. Fixed with a new battery. Takes the same as a Streetpilot c530 and can be purchased anywhere on line. A 10 minute job with a soldering iron.

1. Open face plate. Unscrew 4 screws. Remove battery connector and clip.
2. Unsolder the wires to the two speakers - 4 wires.
3. Remove the sticky wrap from the old battery and place around the new one (to stop it rattling).
4. Solder back the new speaker wires.
5. Plug in battery, reassemble unit and charge Garmin off PC wih usb cable.
Done!

Garmin Nuvi 265W just will not switch on!

Bad or very low battery
Replace at Garmin
But first know this:
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} Sounds like a bad or low battery. Do you have the Garmin approved charger / car charger?? You may have to send your 265 in for battery replacement or try this:
There are three ways to charge the internal battery in your automotive GPS unit.1
  1. Use the provided vehicle power cable that came with your GPS unit. The unit will charge while powered on and using the device as well as when the GPS unit is powered off and plugged into a running vehicle. About 3 hrs for a full charge. If the unit will not charge in the vehicle, check the fuse in the power cable for the unit and the power outlet in the vehicle.
  2. Use an AC power adaptor. Some units come with this power cable to plug the GPS unit into a wall outlet allowing the GPS unit to take a charge. For units that do not come with this cable, one can be purchased from Garmin's online store.
  3. For most units, the final way of charging the battery is to plug the GPS into a powered on computer with a USB cable2. This method of charging will be a trickle charge and it may take longer (like a full day) than the other two options, however it will still charge the battery. A USB cable is provided with a few GPS models. For those that don't come with this cable, one can either be ordered from the online store or you can use a standard USB to mini-USB cable that fits the unit and plugs into your computer.
1 - Please note that temperature can play an effect on the charging of a device. If the battery registers a temperature of 0°C and below or 45°C and above (32°F and 113°F respectively) then it will not charge. When connected to external power it will only be operating off of external power.
2 - The Quest® and Quest® 2 will not charge using a USB cable.

Garmin 765T,dont work/cant charge....

Mine did the same thing. Take a T5 torx bit and unscrew the bottom two screws. Gently pry unit apart. I used finger nails. Disconnect the battery wires from circuit board. Leave unplugged for 10 seconds. Plug the battery wires back into the circuit board. Turn unit on and then plug into computer and run the garmin web updater. Download the fix from garmin. Or you can send back to garmin and two weeks later they'll send you a refurbed unit. You'll lose all your saved data. On top of paying the shipping.

Brand new Garmin nuvi 755t won't power up.

i have had the same problem obviously. all i did was get a TORX TX5 screw driver and open up 2 screws. carefully lift off the cover(its just snapped in). Warning: battery and speaker are attached to the cover so do not pull the cover off or it will break the wire. carefully unplug the battery and leave it out for a 20 mins or so. plug it back in and it should power up and then connect it to internet, download webupdater and update. thats it and the problem is fixed.

Dont want to turn on

IF the internal battery is dead, which happens, it will no turn on even with good batteries or the DC plug. Lots of info online on how to replace it, make sure you use the correct type.

Power dors not transfer thru the connection between the wire and unit on my c330 , it appears that a little gold wire has broken in the rubber mount.

It took a nap...

Waking up your c330...

If you left your Garmin c330 on running the battery will have 1% life left. If you turn c330 back on again, it will flash screen for 3 seconds then die, even charging it at this point will not wake it back up. TO BRING IT BACK TO LIFE... plug in the power home or car into Garmin c330. There is a tab in the front Garmin gray frame of your screen. You must take like your fingernails and under the logo "GARMIN" pull the whole gray plastic frame off. Underneath the plastic frame to the right hand side. There is a "RESET" button. Make sure power is plugged in while hitting reset. Your battery should come back to life. Cheers
