My 2001 dodge Dakota is running rough and the check engine light is on.

You'll have to look up the actual procedure to test the coil for code 351. The code means the computer is not able to fire the coil on demand which could be caused by several things, including a faulty computer. It could also be a problem with the wiring between the coil and the computer.

Yes I have heard of it a few times on this site and it most often wiring harness related, bad branch out splices. Of course the PCM (ECM on earlier models) contains the ignition control module so it is also a suspect part.

Trouble code P0320 ignition/dist. engine speed input circuit

P0320 - Ignition / distributor engine speed circuit malfunction

The ignition engine speed sensor input signal to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Electronic Control Module (ECM) is continuously monitored. The test fails when the signal indicates that 2 successive erratic profile ignition pickup (PIP) pulses occurred.

Symptoms:
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Lack/Loss of Power
- The engine may be harder to start
- The engine may stumble or stall

When is the code detected?
The P0320 code is triggered when 2 successive erratic PIP pulses are detected.

Possible Causes:
- Loose wires/connectors
- Faulty Crank Position Sensors
- Arcing secondary ignition components (coil, wires and plugs)
- Low battery charge
- Powertrain Control Module

Possible Solutions:
- Resecure loose wire or connectors
- If battery charge is low, recharge or replaced battery
- Replaced crank position sensor
- Replaced starter motor

Test it and tell us news.

The time ing mark in my 1992 dodge dakota ait gone i am teying to time it right but i can not find the mark what do I do?

On a 1992 Dodge Dakota 3.9 or 5.2,there is NO Base (initial) Timing

You bring engine up on compression TDC #1
Rotate Distributor until rotor is over mark on switch plate
Back probe 5volt reference wire (Grey Wire 1992&1993--Tan/Yel 1994-1997)
Rotate Dist, back and forth, until you go from 5 volt to O volt, then lock down dist

Distributor Sensor (Hall Effect) under switch plate,is for Injector Timing, not dwell control, etc
