You just bought the new computer. I belive it must be having the wireless card. Go to the control panel and go to network connections. If you see wireless network conenction in the network connectin then you don't need to buy anything.
Is your router already set up and other computers are online using the router ?
in that case you don't need to run the CD. you just need to connect to the network ?

I've got an old Gateway desktop I need to connect to a wireless router for my job. I just bought a new, much stronger NetGear router and it still won't connect. I no longer have a laptop and I'm DESPERATE...

Unless you've installed a wireless card in your old desktop you will never connect wirelessly.
Desktops don't come equiped to do wireless communications. And an "old Gateway" surely does not have those capabilities.

You have 2 options
1) Purchase and install a wireless card for your Gateway

2) Use it hard wired... Purchase an "Ethernet cable" of sufficient length and plug it into one of the open ports on the back of the router and into the only place it will fit on the back of your computer

My niece gave me a Linksys WRT54G wireless broadband router. But she couldn't find the installer. How do I install it to my computer?

1)Connect lan cable on any of the port in router and connect your pc? And check whether your pc is getting automatic ip and check what is the gateway defined there??And just put that ip(if default it will be 192.168.1.1) in your internet explorer and access your router.
2) If even connecting your pc its not getting any ip then reset you wireless router and login using internet explore 192.168.1.1 ip?

You need a wireless router for you to use Wireless connection

I recommend DLINK, Belkin or Linksys router any of those will work.

you can still use wired connection because router has 4 ports for wired connection but if you prefer to use wireless then you need to buy USB wireless network adapter.

I'm trying to connect my TV via wireless to the

Connect a computer to this router using an ethernet cable.
Check the IP address. The default gateway which the hard-wired computer would receive is: 192.168.2.1
Open the router interface on your computer by typing 192.168.2.1 in a blank address bar in your browser.
On the left column, Under WIRELESS, select security and check the security settings made (Recommended: 64-bit WEP security)
Use this info on your wireless device to connect wireless.
For your blu-ray device to work, you have to disable FIREWALL on the router, also assign static DNS under INTERNET WAN.
It ll surely work, if you still have issues, call me at +91-9994070998
I ll surely fix this issue.

this should help guide you.

I cant connect to wireless on my brand new laptop :(

you need to make sure that your laptop has a wireless card in it and if it's working properly. if it has a wireless card already, the wireless card should automatically detect your wireless router (the wireless icon is usually located at the bottom right hand corner of your screen) and you just need to connect using the correct wireless settings (ssid and wireless security).you need to also check if the wireless capability of the router is enabled. make sure to check if the wireless light on the router is on.

here are the steps on how to check the wireless settings of the router

- open a web browser using a computer connected to the router via cable. enter http://192.168.1.1 on the address bar.
- it will prompt you to enter a username and password, use "admin"
- it will now promt you with your router's screen, go to the wireless section
- check the wireless settings like the wireless name/ssid that are listed there since that would be settings that you need to use on your laptop (note: you can change the wireless name/ssid to something that you can remember easily and just saev the settings)
- check also the wireless security if it's enabled

hope this'll help you

ciao!

2wire HomePortal replacement necessary?

how bout customizing the wireless settings of your 2wire first for a more stable connection. like change the wireless name from it's default and enable a wireless security. you can also change the wireless channel to minimize interference from other wireless device near your area.
if you have done that already, try to upgrade the firmware of your router to check that it's not a firmware issue.
if you have done everything to solve your concern, it's better to get a replacement.
i believe your home portal is a gateway. if so, you also need to have a gateway to replace it and a router is not sufficient.
as long as your laptop has a wireless card installed, you don't need any other equipment
hope this'll help you.
