How to save drum unit encrusted with ink?

How vigorously can the drum be cleaned. I've used water and alcohol with a clean cloth and moderate pressure . Removed most of the ink accumulations, but a few encrusted spots remain. Anything else I can do before replacing drum unit?

A little denatured alcohol and soft cloth is ok. Water is a no-no. The wiper blade may be defective on the drum unit and or the excess toner cavity in the rear of the drum may be full. Best bet is to replace the drum.

Clean heads on VCR

Q-tips, isopropyl alcohol and soft cloth + pressurized air is what you need. Disconnect from the wall outlet, open the cover. Blow the dust out with a few bursts from the air can. Clean all the upright posts along the tape path. On the left is the erase head (unless you have a fine editing VCR) - rub it clean with a q-tip soaked in alcohol - dry with a clean cloth. To the forward right of the round video head drum is the audio head, drive shaft (capstan) and rubber pinch roller. Clean all these like the erase head but use very little alcohol on the roller. Then clean the round video head. Never touch it with your fingers or anything but a q-tip or soft cloth. The actual video heads are in the tiny slots in the rotating part. Do not rub them but just touch a few times with a slightly moist (alcohol) q-tip. The rest of the drum can be rubbed normally paying attention to getting the groove clean.

Want to know how to manually clean printer head

You can, but the objective is to soften the dried ink, that blocks the tiny ports.
In my estimate the alcohol will dry too fast.

Printer UNPLUGGED from power, and you may wish to don some gloves.
(Dishwashing gloves?)
The ink likes to go everywhere.

Remove the ink cartridge/s.

As you can see, the copper metal strip area, on the ink cartridge; has TINY little holes in it.
I use a clean soft static free cloth, and soak the end I'm going to use; in as hot a water as I can stand.

Then reduce the water in the cloth, (Squeeze), so the wet area, is just damp.
Wipe across the copper area, and it's tiny ports.
Wipe across once, then find a clean area on the cloth; and do so again.

Keep wiping until cloth comes away clean.
I also do the same on the metal area, of the printer; that the metal area of the ink cartridge touches.

There are matching tiny port holes there also.
Keep wiping, adjusting for a clean area after each wipe, until cloth comes away clean.

I then follow with a can of compressed air for computers, and make sure the areas are DRY.

Q-tips, and Isopropyl alcohol, (Rubbing alcohol), sounds more intelligent, to me.
However the amount used may fill up a small bag, IMHO.

I know what you're thinking. Is this guy N-uts?
Water and Electricity do not mix!

(Actually they do. Water is an excellent conductor)

I watch to make sure there are no drips from the cloth, when using it. Have a dry cloth handy for the other hand, if they do.

I also make SURE the areas are DRY, before reinstalling ink cartridges.

I find VERY warm water helps break down the dried ink.

Always willing to learn something new, however.

Ink cartridge leaked inside HP photosmart 7350. How do I clean up the mess. I tried cleaning w/Q-Tip and alcohol but there's a lot of ink there. I probably have to clean it all before installing a...

Lots of Q-tips! I'd also use some small pieces of cotton cloth--be careful it doesn't leave strands of cloth in the bottom of the printer. I've had this happen and I just stuck with it until it got reasonably clean.
Oh--and warm water will work just fine. Most of the ink is water-soluble

A repeating black dot a few cms apart about 5 down an A4 page. Roller or drum need cleaning? how?

Are the spots at 94mm
intervals? (The problem is not solved after printing a few pages.)

1) If toner or glue remains stuck, wipe it off gently with a
cotton swab. (Refer to NOTE in thebottom of this page.)
2) If the photosensitive drum is scratched or deteriorated (exposed), replace the drum

Are the spots at 79mm intervals?..

1) Check and clean the heat roller with a cloth dampened with alcohol.
2) Replace the fixing unit.

Clean the drum unit as follows:
(1) Remove the toner cartridge from the drum unit Place the printing samples in front of the
drum unit, and find the exact position of the image defect.
(2) Turn the drum gear by hand while looking at the surface of the photosensitive drum.
(3) Wipe the surface of the photosensitive drum with a cotton swab until the dust or paper
powder on the surface comes off.
Do not wipe the surface of the photosensitive drum with something sharp. (ball-point pen
Use cleaning liquid which is a 50-50 mixture of ethyl alcohol and pure water.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Thanks, Joe

Why does my washing comes out with stains on it.... they weren't there when it went into the wash...

yes sometimes ink pens can be washed when we are not aware it was in someones pocket. I use straight ammonia and a cloth to clean my washing machine drum a couple times a year because these things have happened to me before. The ammonia will cut the grime and pen stains out of the drum. Then take a squirt bottle and fill it with white vinegar and squirt all around inside the drum of the machine. Run a wash without any clothes with the hottest water to clean the drum and clear out the stains. Do this to the dryer also and clean out the filters. Take the dispensers out from the washing machine and clean those too and your cleaning is done for a while. Apparently the ink has been in the drum of your washing machine and putting the color into your clothes. You can bleach out the white clothes that turned blue. Use the stain remover for colored clothes. Hope this will help you.

My scanner when it scans there are little lines accross the picture it does not matter if I print it straight out or save it anything scanned HP photosmart c5180 all in one any thoughts

if the lines are in the direction of paper feed, the problem is probably dirt or ink from ball points on the glass. Against the dark background it is very hard to see. Try alcohol on a clean cloth and scrub the glass vigorously.
It could be that the ink cart are getting plugged up or just needs replaced.

VCR Sound but no picture

If the picture is only "snow" then the problem is the head(s) on the spinning drum have become clogged with video tape emulsion which greatly affects the spinning video head(s) reducing the video level down to only noise. This usually will happen instantly and is caused by the particular tape you were watching. The head(s) can be cleaned with a lint free cotton cloth and some alcohol by wetting a portion of the cloth with the alcohol (not to much) and with your finger hold the cloth with slight pressure against the horizontal slightly slanted slot which is on the outside surface of the drum about half way down. While applying the slight pressure spin the top of the drum around counter clockwise. do this for about 15 seconds. then when you are sure the alcohol as evaporated from the drum turn it on and try to play a tape (not the one you were watching when the problem occurred) and if the picture is still just snow repeat the procedure but this time use a little more force on the cloth. Or find and use a special VHS head cleaning tape. The cleaning tape will reduce the life of the heads because it is abrasive in nature.

I hope this helps you!

Unable to clean????

Were you told to,

1.Clean the jet holes on the ink cartridge, and

2.The area on the printer the ink cartridge jet holes line up with? Plus after doing so insuring that both areas were dry?

You may have ink dried up in those tiny jet holes. A hairdryer set to low heat, and constantly moving back, and forth when using it to dry these areas, helps too.
(After using the Isopropyl alcohol method. Use CAUTION as Isopropyl alcohol is Flammable!
I know, DUH! But it has to be stated.

I use a clean, lint-free cloth, and warm water. Wring the warm water out until the cloth is just lightly damp. BE SURE those above mentioned areas are dry, before reinstalling the ink cartridges!)

3.MFC-3240C off, and unplugged?
(Opening the cover, and closing it helps to remove error codes, as it will reset itself. Unplugging from power, replugging in, and turning on does also. You may still have the error code of unable to clean, because it hasn't be cleared)
