No, "steam" is a term used for the atomizing of water. None of the houshold carpet extractors use steam. It appears both a safety issue, and prrotects the carpet from excess heat.

solution number 2 works. however, you don't have to take it apart, the base plate has a steam hole in the center, just clean out with a paper clip. watch out for the residual steam, it actually helps clean out the mineral deposits

I can't get the steam to work.

Some vacuums have a misleading name such as the "Hoover Steam Vac" which does not actually produce or maintain steam, you are just supposed to fill it with hot water.

They do not really "steam." They use hot water to clean your carpets with a mix of cleaner as well. You will not see your unit actually steam.

We purchased a Hoover Steam/Vac (F5915-900) cleaner. We assumed it be a combination STEAM and Vacuum machine. Where is the Steam? I will await your reply. Thank You.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. I have a similar Hoover “SteamVac” and the vacuum does not create steam as you stated, but you do have to use the hottest water with cleaning solution and the Hoover will clean your carpet by spraying down the solution, the scrubbing brushes will loosen the dirt and the vacuum will pickup the excess water until the holding tank is full and then you have to empty it, and then start again. The word “Steam Vac” is something that the Hoover factory labeled but so far I have not seen anything that actual produces “Steam” while cleaning. Feel free to contact the Hoover factory with your complaint @ the information listed below. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
