Are you talking about when the lens is mount on a tripod via it's collar? The answer to that would be yes.

Once mounted on the tripod you can loosen the ring to swivel the camera (and lens) from landscape to portrait position.

Canon Rebel camera wideangle lens settings?

That depends on what you're taking a picture of. The best setting for a landscape picture won't necessarily be the best setting for a group portrait. You might want to use different settings for a daytime landscape than for a sunset. That's why the camera offers different settings. The camera is a tool. You're the photographer.

Hi error 01 on canon 5d mk 1. With brand new 70-200 2.8? Have read there is an issue on portrait shots but I am unable at this stage to be sure if it has only been an issue for landscape horizontal use or...

Error 01 is generally associated with camera unable to communicate with lens. Could be contacts need cleaned; since lens is new contacts on camera are more likely starting point for cleaning. But, common issue is failure of something in the lens, but that seems unlikely as it is new ... but it could happen. You might search for other Canon Error 01 comments/solutions. Failing a solution from that, time to contact SigmaUSA repair to have them inspect/repair under warranty.

I had a similar situation with a 100mm macro. I used the Canaon US site and comunicated via the internet and they sent me a pdf of the manual. "Service and support, support by email."

I have a Cosina AF Macro 100mm lens that I used on

you should be able to use that lens with it. As long as it attaches to the SLR body ok. The thing to be aware of is with better technology in the newer camera you may have AF issues with that particular lens.

How do i turn my flash off canon eos xsi

Hi,

In your camer there will be seven Full Auto modes : full auto, portrait,
landscape, close-up, sports, night portrait and FLASH OFF. Turn
the Mode Dial of the camera clockwise as far as it will go to
disable the flash. In Full Auto, the flash is also disabled in
landscape mode and sports mode.

Hope this helps.

My new eos rebel xsi won't let me set it on portrait; instead it sets on landscape for both portrait and landscape

To take a picture in portrait mode, you just have to turn the camera 90 degrees. When you view the pics, the camera will automatically make the picture upright for viewing but it will still be a portrait.

Lens advice please?

There are several different lenses that are commonly used for portrait photography with this camera. I need more information to tell which one would be "best" for you, but these are all excellent choices:

85 mm f/1.2 (many portrait photographers prefer this lens)
24-70 f/2.8 (I own and love this lens)
24-105 f/4 - a great all-purpose lens that also works well for portraits

I can help more if you can tell me what lenses you already have, and what you will be shooting in addition to portraits.

Canon 20D strong blue cast to pictures

You probably have the White Balance set to a setting other a
than "Auto White Balance" (AWB). On the top of the camera, above the exterior LCD panel, there is the "AF-WB" button. Turn the camera on--past "on" to the bent line. Press the AF-WB button once. On the left side of the exterior LCD panel there is a vertical, reticular box with the symbol of the selected setting for WB. Normally, the setting should be set to AWB. If it is not, turn the command dial at the back of the camera until "AWB" is showing. Try shooting again-the color should be better.

In the "auto" modes (green box, portrait, landscape, etc) the AWB is automatically set. In the "advanced" modes (P,Tv, etc) the WB is manually set for whatever light source you are using. The command dial may have been accidently turned to different setting. Hope this helps.
