Question about Compaq P110 21" CRT Monitor

Compaq P110 21" CRT Monitor that is blurry in the middle of the screen and clear and crisp on the edge

I've purchased a second hand Compaq P110 monitor and recently realised that the centre of the screen is ever so slightly blurry and that the edge of the screen is clear. I have tried degaussing it and playing around with the settings to no avail. I am assuming that this is just the tubes getting old. Am I right to assume this? Is there anything else I should look at? Furthermore, if it is the tubes, should have them replaced? Where?

As a result of aging monitor alignments drift, giving rise a a myriad of odd symptoms. Open the monitor up (of course it's got to be off), locate the scanning coils on the neck of the tube. Right there on are disk-shaped permanent alignment magnets. The scanning coils are electromagnets that produce the raster (scanning pattern), while the low-strenght permanent magnets allow the alignment to be varied ever so finely. Chances are that this alignment has drifted. Reconnect and turn on the monitor and with something being displayed, turn the disks one-by-one, observing the effect on the screen (a large mirror in front of the monitor would help much). Note that normally the disks are secured at the factory using hot glue. You may want to warm up the glue before starting the re-adjustment to make it easier to turn the disks. I am quite certain that this will solve your problem.

Most monitors have adjustments for contrast/brightness, display position, display height and width, and one called pincushion. The last one changes the flatness or curvature of the edge of the display:

What flatscreen monitor is OK to substitute for sanpo alphascan 520?

Hi. Almost all the crt type monitors should work, it's flat screen monitors that seem to give computers problems with aspect ratios, and resolution settings.

I personally use an NEC AccuSync 70.
It might not be the newest monitor in the world, but the colors are crisp, clear, and bright.
And It allows a setting of 1024x768@85 hz refresh rate, which works great for my games.

As far as flat screens, I would probably go with an Acer, or a Dell monitor, as these two companies seem to have better quality from their monitors than most other manufacturers.

I hope this helps you out!

There's practically no radiation from LCD monitors, especially compared to older CRT monitors, which radiated several sorts of electromagnetic waves.

Is the picture on your monitor crisp, with good focus? If the letters and shapes are blurry, it may mean that you are using a different screen resolution than the native resolution of your LCD.
If your monitor type is FP731, then it's native resolution is 1280x1024 and this is what should be set in the Display Properties under Settings tab (in Windows). If it's a different model, you can search for it's specs on the web to see what is it's native (a.k.a. optimum) resolution.

Please rate and possibly leave a testimonial if helped.

I bought second hand monitor samsung syncmaster750s..when i plug it the icons become blurry and become large and i cannot set my resolution...i use the vga mode because when i start it au

Normally if you go in VGA mode the screen will be installed and when rebooting in normal mode it will set itself.
In VGA mode the resolution is 640x480 and you can't set the resolution higher, so what you are experiencing is normal.

From what you are saying it seems that the driver installed from windows is the wrong one, you can try to run windows update to see if there is a driver for it or go on samsung website.

You can get the driver from samsung here :
Samsung 750s driver

If after that it doesn't work check on the internet for compatibility issues with your graphic card, since some of the newer cards can have compatibility issues with the older CRT screens.

Sony 24'' CRT widescreen GDM-FW900 blurry after initial on

CRT shorts are common with this model and focus problems are a major symptom. however, the loud 'pop' you described leads me to believe that the flyback transformer may have a problem in the focus divider portion. replace the flyback, if that fails then the CRT is most certainly the problem

Ensure that the monitor's UltraBrite mode is off, via the "UltraBrite Mode" button on the front panel. UltraBrite is great for games and movies, but it tends to fuzz plain text ever so slightly.
