The slamming of the carrier past the forward stop cause a reported carrier jam.

You should have the printer serviced by an authorized Lexmark Servicer.

  1. follow the steps below
  2. Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product.

    • If the carriage is stuck on the right side of the product , move the carriage to the left side of the product.
    • If the carriage is stuck on the left side of the product , move the carriage to the right side of the product.
    • If the carriage is stuck in the middle of the product , move the carriage to the right side of the product.
  • Remove any loose paper or obstructions found.
  • Make sure that the carriage can move freely across the width of the product by gently pushing the carriage to the left and then to the right.
  • Close the carriage access door.

    I have a carriage jam

Turn the power on. Goto the procedure to replace ink cartridge, to get the carrier in the middle. Turn off power by unplugging the machine, if you hit thee power button the carrier will go back to the right. Take your hand and move the carrier to the right then to the left. You are feeling for binds in the print shaft or any obstruction. If the print shaft is binding clean and oil it. If the cartridge is hitting something locate and repair. There is a thin strip behind the carrier that has black strips all along from left to right. This strip is called an emitter strip. That strip allows the circuit board to know where the carrier is at. The strip gets dirty and can cause the carrier to get lost to the circuits. Clean it. There are more step that you can take but they get more technical. The above mentioned can be done with out taking the cover off. You may resolve the problem.

    d. Note: The encoder strip is a narrow band of clear plastic and can be difficult to see without direct lighting running parallel to metallic rod.
    e. Close the printer and try again to print.

    4. Repositioning the Encoder strip.
