I had a similar problem with a sony 60" lcd hdtv. The normal power on light was green. When I had an issue the led would flash about 8 or 9 times. Can't remember exactly. It turned out to be a troubleshooting code. When I researched it, turned out to be the high powered lamp that lights the lcd screen was shot. When this happens you get no picture or sound. It's not a terribly difficult job to replace it yourself. I found a replacement bulb on line by my model number along with instructions on how to replace. You probably get about 4 or 5 years out of a bulb depending on usage. Hope this helps.
Its possible that the CRTs have shutdown due to a vertical failure. Have you tried pressing menu to see if the onscreen menu will come up, as often the menu will operate when the crts go into blanking for protection. You can also try turning up the CRTs slightly to see if they will turn on.
I had the same problem with Sony KV-32fs120 with 9 blinks. Replaced D645 and D647 on main board with 1.5A1KV diodes from Radio Shack which did the trick.
count the flashes again carefully, as that model should only blink a maximum of 9 times, unless your getting two seperate codes. Try counting and trying to notice if it pauses a second before blinking again. then let me know what you discover.
