Question about Palm Treo 755p Smartphone

Backlight on Treo 755p

I just upgraded my Treo 650 to a 755p. The backlights on my 650 were great. Evenly dispersed under every button. I'm trying to figure out if the problem I'm having now is unique to my particular phone, or 755's in general. The lights under the keyboard part of the phone are perfect. Each key is evenly lit. But the phone / calendar / mail / home buttons are unevenly lit. It seems that the blue light is placed under the center of the buttons, and only the middle part of each icon lights up, leaving the left and right sides of each dark. Anyone else having this problem? Or am I just being a Virgo and way too anal about the whole thing?

BTW, I love this new phone! It has enough new features (compared to the 650) to make me a happy camper.

Mine looks the same way.
I think there's a single LED centered between the two buttons on each side of the 4-way. Try turning the lights on and looking at the buttons at a low angle form each side to see what I mean.

in order to perform a hard reset, you take out the battery. hold the power button and insert the battery.

release the power button when you got palm/access powered. it should prompt you to erase all data. press up to erase and finish setting the device. no need to reinstall the palm desktop software.

My Treo 755p backlight wont stay on if turned on, it only comes on for a second and goes off thereby making it difficult to see

I was having problems with my palm tero 755p when it started hot sync on its own and wouldnt let me log off..so i then took the battery out and put it back in and now its froxen with colored squares on the...
Treo started to sync on it's own?! The reason why it happened, because the firmware on the PDA could be corrupted.

If the Treo is still under the warranty, you need to contact Palm and they just need to re-flash the firmware or upgrade the firmware. You PDA should be working again.

Upgrading it should not cost anything expect if the PDA is out of warranty. But it should not costs you too much.

Dhorner64 is incorrect. Your phone is not fried if you are in a restart loop. You need to do a "warm reset" which will not erase data. It is the equivalent of doing a safe boot in Windows. Remove the battery from your 755p, then put it back while holding the up button on the 5-way. Hold the up button as the phone starts. I had to do this frequently, then run the DataViz Tech app, which is available free from DataViz, to fix their prefs file, which was the source of my crashes. The problem was solved by upgrading to Docs2go v11. I was reluctant to pay to upgrade a crashing app, but the upgrade ended the frequent crashes. I have not had a couple resets since upgrading Docs2go, and no reset loops.

TREO 90 Backlight
The Treo 90 had a problem with backlight failure, which Handspring acknowledged and began fixing back in 2002.  However, their guideline was that if your 90 did not fail within 6 weeks of use, it did not have the defective part responsible for the failure.
Your backlight probably has just died of old age.  It is EXTREMELY difficult to replace just the backlight (I've tried).  If you search long enough on eBay, though, you can probably find a 90 with a broken case, dead battery, broken motherboard, or some other ailment, but with a functioning screen/keyboard assembly, including backlight.  It's a pretty simple matter to replace the screen/keyboard assembly (there's a screw hidden under the battery that holds it into the front frame).

TREO 650 Phone won't work
I experienced the same problem while traveling this weekend. The green phone button and anything associated to the phone all of a sudden stopped working. No call out and none in. I hotsync'd and also did a "hard reset" except I said yes and then went in and hotsync'd again. Phone now works again and all data is back
