Question about Silverstone (sst-tj05-b) ATX Mid-Tower Case

1 Answer

Damaged usb ports, need side i/o panel with usb, 1394, and sound connections that comes with case. Case is silverstone tj05 and is still being sold new although it has been discontinued. On a high end case parts should be available. The certainly are with Antec. Silverstone is only as good as it support for parts and service and right now that doesn't seem so good.

For some reason the computer cannot find or recognise my camera and keeps saying communication error ?

Ok. there're three possible causes for this. I'll list them and the relevant procedures of resolution by probability of occurrence.
  1. Damaged data cable- (confirmed if the following 2 doesn't fix the problem) if this is the case, you need to get a new cable.
  2. Damaged USB port on computer- Confirm by trying to connect cam to a different port (i.e.- try the rear ports if you were using one on the front) or to a different computer. If this is the case, you need to get a USB expansion card that will give your computer some extra USB ports.
  3. Damage on camera's side (could range from a simple broken port tab to circuit damage) confirm by: connecting a different camera to your computer using the same data cable. If this is the case you will have to take the camera to where you bought it from for repair (remember to check whether you can still claim your warranty.)

Can it be used as external hdd

Yes it can be used as an external hdd.

This is the only procedure i know and i hope you'll be satisfied.

Things You'll Need

Screwdriver

1

Locate and purchase an IDE to USB cable conversion kit. Insert the driver CD that came with the kit into your computer's CD drive. Follow the instructions on the installation prompt that will appear on your computer's screen to install the conversion cable driver software.
nhrtz_1.jpg
2

Power off the computer once the driver software has finished installing. Remove the power cable and all of the other cords from their ports on the back side of the computer.
3

Set the entire computer case on its side so that the left side panel is facing upwards. Check the back end of the case to determine if the side panel is locked with two case screws or only a metal latch. Disconnect the panel from the case either by removing the screws or by pulling upwards on the latch.
4
An IDE Cable

Pull the side panel off of the computer case and set it aside. Locate the drive that you want to connect with a USB cable. Remove the screws holding the drive into the drive bay. Disconnect one end of the IDE cable from the motherboard, but leave the other end connected to the back side of the drive itself.
5

Remove the drive from the drive bay with its connected IDE cable and set it outside of the computer case. Set the side panel back onto the case and re-attach the metal latch or case screws. Plug the cables back into the computer ports and power the computer back on.
6

Insert the end of the IDE cable that used to be connected to the motherboard into the IDE port on the conversion cable. Plug the male USB end at the other side of the conversion cable into any open USB port on your computer.

Have a nice day friend and i hope this would satisfy your needs.

Can't drive av/c;multimedia hardwares;tvcard

Sounds like the card reader cables, USB cables, and Firewire, (1394) cables have been disconnected from the motherboard. I'm guessing granted, but it could have been when the TV card was removed, or perhaps when you were installing upgrades.

You've had the computer open, judging from the statement that you've upgraded it.

1.Computer off, and unplugged from the surge protector. Open the computer case. TOUCH the metal frame of the computer case, to relieve your body of static electricity.

2.You may have to use a flashlight. Look for the cables coming from the card reader. From the Front Panel. You may have to remove the Front Panel a bit, to peer in, and see which cables go to the card reader.

Finding these cables, follow them back to the motherboard. See if they're plugged in, plugged in tight, and if they are the right way around.
Do the same for the firewire ports, and the USB ports. Follow their cables.

motherboard dont have fuse has diodes which act similar to fuses but wont be blown.only things that will blow in that area are transistors or capacitors;but if these were blown usb's would not be detected.
in device manager were its says working correctly it relates to software istalled and working properly it cant tell u that the hub connection is damaged internally.
if your usb's are on card and connected to motherboard they can be replaced otherwise if built into motherboard youll have to take it to repair shop.
if the only problem is when u connect a usb device and not causing any other problems,u could use usb hubs that go into the pcmcia

MSI 915o comboAudio front panel

Some cases come with a Mic & speaker jack/ cable. These jacks sit within the case. Rather than using the rear Mic which is (colored pink) & speaker (colored green). These 2 colored cables run from the front of the case & out through an emty hole in the back of the case. Which you connect them to the rear of the boards Mic in (pink) & sound (green). Now you can use your front audio jacks for both mic & sound. This may sound strange but I have come across many cases just like this. Its not uncommon to have 2 front usbs & a 1394 connect on to the board as well. Without your manual I'm sorry I can not help you fauther.
