I replaced my trackball. Will not work when I press down to choose an option. I removed the trackball, cleaned with alcohol. Rolls fine just won't click. If I push extremely hard, sometimes it will work.
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Natural body oil, dirt, etc. from your finger will sometimes get gunked up under the trackball and cause this problem. Take it to a local authorized Verizon service dealer for cleaning or you can do it yourself which is what I've learned to do. The silver ring around the trackball has to GENTLY be pried off, GENTLY clean the area where the trackball sits as well as the trackball itself with a q-tip moistened with alcohol, allow to dry for approx 45 secs, replace trackball and silver ring. Works for me!
if ur trackball doesnt work because its dirty theres a perfect way to clean it. my trackball get dirty all the time from greay hands and once that trackball starts to feel buttery and greasy its not going to work (usually a htc snap trackball feels rough and vibratety when you scroll with it). I'm not sure if htc trackballs come out so it sort of scratch the trackball with my fingernail, this scratches the grease of until if feels rough again. if the trackball moves around to much when you clean it, press it in with the other fingernail. if this doesnt work i guess you could get some rubbing alcholon a cotton ear bud (q-tip) and clean it but i havent tried this. if a greast trackball is the not the problem to your malfunctioning then i guess you should get a new trackball or get it repaired in a shop. :D
Your trackball needs to be cleaned. You have two options.
1) You can send it in to be repaired, or 2) You can clean the trackball yourself.
To clean the trackball yourself:
The silver ring which covers the trackball can easily be removed if you
use a small screwdriver to lift it at the outer side of the ring. Be
careful here! (Like you should be during the whole process as
all parts have very small plastic nipple which can break very easy.)
the silver plastic ring is removed you will see the inner trackball
component which can be removed completely. Before doing this you should
carefully remove the silver metal ring that holds the trackball
component in its position.
The trackball component itself can also be
carved. For every direction the ball can roll to you’ll find a sensor
wheel. Those wheels are mostly carrying some gunk you should clean them
Once this is done put everything back together to the place each
pieces came from and secure the trackball with the silver plastic ring
that you removed in the first step.
Your BlackBerry’s trackball should be
back working now.

You might have one of three things wrong with your blackberry 1. something is stuck down there like a peice of plastic causing the button to seem like its being pressed all the time or 2. there could be water damage in there thats if you bring your phone into the bathroom with you while taking showers humidity is like cancer to phones it might not show up right away but it can happen 3. someone might of pushed the trackball so hard that it dented the button in this case i would take it in to get repaired. If it is one of the other two it should be an easy fix you can check for either one of these problems underneath the trackball by removing the ring that is around the trackball you can do this by carefully prying around it off then you should be able to drop the trackball itself right out of the phone aswell as any thing stuck in there or if there is water damage or any water down there I suggest you turn the phone off as soon as possible to prevent any further damage then I would just leave the phone in a nice dry place to get rid of the water then the trackball should work again same thing goes for removing anything that might be stuck down there after that is all done with you should be able to reassemble it remember the ring around the trackball only goes in one way so do force it or you risk breaking it.
