How can I uninstall Deep Freeze from my MacBook with no username or password?

    Dear Super Guy,

can you confirm this solution is for a MacBook?

    And,

presumably, I have to download an Evaluation/Trial Version of DeepFreeze?

    Thank you,

    Mark

  • markward77 Nov 19, 2009

Set my date to three months ahead and restarted. Then downloaded a trial version of Deep Freeze but that didn't work. The Deep Freeze program looked exactly the same in the applications folder and didn't show any signs of it being the trial copy. Must've been the original - therefore I was not able to get into Deep Freeze and uninstall.

Am now trying: download trial version before restart.

Please refer to any Mac experts you have... I'm desperate

    Thank you

    Mark

  • markward77 Nov 19, 2009

Trouble is that when I download trial version of deep freeze it has to restart the computer. When this happens DF does its magic and wipes the trial version off the computer. Tried to set date forward during same session as download. Forwarded date, downloaded trial version, installed, restarted... everything got wiped - no success downloading after restart as have to restart again after downloading new trial version of DF and problem repeats.

    Any other suggestions?

Do you have any Mac experts you can recommend?

  • markward77 Nov 19, 2009

I didn't install it, it came with the computer. I bought a demonstration model. It is set up by Apple, DF already installed. The shop sold it to me with only the standard bundle of software.

The only folder i know/can find that contains DF is the applications folder

  • markward77 Nov 19, 2009

no just the icon to start the control panel. that's all there is

  • markward77 Nov 19, 2009

    I need a MAC expert!

  • markward77 Nov 20, 2009

Oh, and I also do not have the Username required to get into DFX Control app.

(The only DF stuff I can find on my computer is the application icon in the applications folder)

  • markward77 Nov 20, 2009

Ran repair permissions but no reference to DF came up after the process was completed and there was therefore no option or way to select DF.

The DF application still requires username and password.

  • markward77 Nov 20, 2009

thank you for getting back to me.

Where can I find the BIOS Battery and I presume getting to it will void my warranty? Also, when you say uninstall DF do you mean for me to start the DFXControl Application, (this is the only icon I have that I can find on my computer), and click on 'uninstall' once I'm in - because surely I'll be asked for the USERNAME & PASSWORD again and I have neither; or do you mean simply deleting the Faronics folder in my applications folder? In other words, how do you want me to uninstall DF?

  • markward77 Nov 20, 2009

don't be sarcastic Mr Expert, it was one of your supposed experts that told me to remove the 'bios battery' for twenty minutes. Didn't go near hardware or think about it and that's prob why I replied and asked the question.

And your suggestion didn't work either

  • markward77 Nov 20, 2009

    thanks for the info,

have tried many diff things including contacting Faronics and am drawing blanks. Looks like I'll have to reinstall OS, but that means losing the iLife and Office that've been installed on this machine :-(

Don't know how to change rating but I'll accept your solution u sarky git!

Hi.

If you do not have the password, and the Mac is locking, you will need to put in your Restore CD's and reinstall the OS.
If instead the Mac is starting, then use repair permissions.
Log on, go to Finder> Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility.
Select volume on upper left corner. Find verify permissions, repair permissions options and click repair permissions.
Attempt repairing Deep freeze, and see if that can remove password, otherwise reinstall OS.

Regards.

Macs do not use BIOS, if you want a suggestion given by an engineer leave your mac hardware alone.

Did you reinstall Mac OS? Not?

well keep looking for BIOS on a mac then.

    Sorry.

    I understand you got confused.

Each time you refuse an answer, it will be relocated to a different expert, so at the end you will get experts that may not be really great.

this problem is now waiting to be locked to an expert, for this reason I can still post some comment.

On Mac Deep freezer cannot be uninstalled without master password.

Choices are reinstalling OS, or getting a master password from Deep Freezer software house.

Contact them, I quote from their website:

It is not possible to recover a lost or changed Deep Freeze password
from your workstation. For further assistance, please contact technical
support with your full contact information, installed product version,
and license information. Support can be reached via email through support@faronics.com or via telephone at 1-800-943-6422 x 1.

If that works, please change the rating.

    Regards.

    Lol, thanks Mark.

Sorry about my comment, I was a bit upset about the fixya system awkwardness.

Deep Freezer is a good tool, the only inconvenience is if you loose the password.

Glad that you fixed and thanks for the rating.

    Ginko.

Go to start menu, then search, then type in deep freeze. Once it finds the file, righ-click and delete. Unless their is an uninstall option on this list.

Or go to start menu, go to run, type regedit, hit enter.
Look for H_KEY_LOCAL_USER, find the + Software tab, expand it, find deep freeze there, right click and delete it.
Also look under H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and do the same thing.

Try this and see if it works....

Open up your system clock and forward the date past 60 days and then restart the computer. Deep Freeze should start up in thawed mode. Then run DeepFreezeSTDEval.exe to uninstall Deep Freeze. If you have a paid version, you can still used the evaluation to uninstall it

I'm not sure if it'll work on a Mac.... The principle is the same though as I have worked on other programs on a Mac and a PC and the install and uninstall is usually the same. System settings for times are the same too... so I believe it should work

  • super_guy Nov 19, 2009

have you tried to run the install file in the directory that deepfreeze is installed?

  • super_guy Nov 19, 2009

I didn't mean the install file for the trial... I meant the original install file that you used to install deepfreeze the first time.... The original install file should be able to uninstall the program

  • super_guy Nov 19, 2009

sorry... in that applications folder, are there any files named install or uninstall or something along those lines. It should be an exe file.
Unfortunately I don't even know if those files are there because the system was pre setup before you got it....

  • super_guy Nov 20, 2009

Sorry I couldn't be of more help... Good luck
