Where the hoses go into the machines you will notice those valves are controled by solnoid switch thats what starts and stops water flow as you turn selector knob you should hear them click if that turn off water supply remove hoses from back of machine check if filter screen is in place and that there is no trash keeping valve open p.s switch from hot and cold to see which one needs to be replaced or repaired

Water will not turn off

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Water Inlet Valve If the washer is overflowing and power is shut off to the washer, the water inlet valve has failed. Replace it.
Pressure Switch If the washer is overflowing the pressure switch might be defective. The pressure switch is attached to a small tube which is attached to the outer wash tub. As the water level rises the air pressure in the tube increases, once the set water level is reached the pressure switch turns off power to the water inlet valve. Check to be sure the air tube to the pressure switch is clear before replacing the switch.

Low Water Pressure from House Supply If the washer is overflowing the water pressure to the water inlet valve might be too low. The water inlet valve requires a minimum of 20 psi to shut off properly. If the pressure is lower, the valve may not close fully when the power is shut off. This results in the valve leaking water into the washer and causing it to overflow.

Set it going, fills up ok, goes through washing cycle but after spinning and then filling up for next cycle it overflows

Rather hard to understand your problem from the wording in the question but what I understand to be the case is that your tub fills up with water and overflows after the cycle is finished. Perhaps overnight water slowly fills the tub. This is due to the water inlet valve not shutting off all the way. The Inlet valve assembly needs to be replaced.

Why do the stackable washers always overflow with water. Is it a sensor problem or what?

Overflowing can be caused by a faulty pressure switch or tube from switch to the tub. It is operated by air pressure from water filling in the tub. If this does not activate then the inlet valve will continue to allow water to enter the machine. If it is overflowing during spin only it is most likely something obstructing the pump. If it is filling the tub even when the machine is off the problem is the inlet valve.

I was washing pillows and water just overflowed - I'm not sure from where. I think the bottom of the machine. Just a little bit of water. Did I ruin the motor?

If you let the tub fill, then put the pillows in, you may have caused the water level to overflow the outer tub somewhat. If you didn't smell smoke or hear any frying sounds, the motor is probably ok. Does the washer seem to operating normally?

Washer tub overflows and wont stop

The water level in a washing machine is determined by the pressure switch. The switch is located behind the load selector, water level, load size (has various names depending on model and manufacturer) knob on the operator console. If the switch malfunctions, the water will not shut off and the washer will overflow.

Now...before assuming the switch is defective, a common problem that occurs is the small air hose on the pressure switch coming loose or leaking. This air hose attaches from the wash tub to the pressure switch. The pressure swtich senses the change in air pressure as the tub fills and shuts the water off at the selected level. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r762094-washer_overflows

To access your pressure switch, unplug the washer and open the operator console. Look for a clear plastic hose. If it is NOT attached, you may have found your problem. Reconnect and test operate.

If it IS attached, check the entire length of the hose all the way to the wash tub for any cracks of leaks. In addition, remove the electrical connection(s) and check for corrosion. Clean if necessary.

If all these preliminary steps don't solve your problem, replace your pressure switch. Read through the link I provided and let me know if you have any questions. I hope you find this information helpful.

Water won't shut off during wash/rinse cycles & overflows

the clear tube going from the tub to the pressure switch probably came undone or has a hole in it

Water overflows...does not shut off when full.

Empty tub of water unplug unit and pull it away from wall about three feet, tip unit back and on right side of drum you will find a hose connected to it remove this hose and inspect it for clog,if no clog is found nipple end on drum is probably clogged"can be cleared with small wire".If this is not cause then presure switch in upper control panel is bad,"note if hose is not connected to drum that is cause".The pressure switch is connected to the hose and the hose can even be damaged with hole in it if this happens hose needs replaced the length of the hose is important to operate properly and should not be altered in any way.

Overflow - Cold water shutoff not working?

Sounds like the cold water valve is faulty. You can try to remove it and clean the inside if it's clogged or replace it completely.
