Question about Barbie Sewing Machines

Since its purchase it has never functioned.

Since its purchase as a present it has never functioned correctly. The needle does not engage with the mechanism beneath the sole plate and upon examination it seems impossible that it could ever engage with it. We suspect that this mechanism either was incorrectly installed or that some vital component is missing. As it stands the Sewing Machine is not fit for purpose.

Adjusting the bobbin tension does not solve this problem. The needle will not engage with the crude mechanism under the sole plate. At its lowest position it is nowhere near the mechanism and there is no obvious way to reposition the mechanism so that the needle will engage with it. I think a component is missing or faulty.

Thanks for using FixYa. To resolve the issue you’ll need to check the following things and take remedial action as suggested against each point---

1. Please check that the upper thread has not run out. If so, replace empty spool and thread the machine.

2. Check that the presser foot is not up. If so, you’ll need to lower the presser foot.

3. Also check that the bobbin winder shaft is not left in winding position. You’ll need to move the bobbin winder shaft back to the left.

4. Please check that the buttonhole lever is not lowered at the time of placing machine in the buttonhole mode. It will be required to be lowered.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Hello. I can assist you. The problem you are describing requires an adjustment to the bobbin tension by turning the bobbin tension screw. When this is done, the needle will engage the mechanism as it should. If you are not a sewer, you may prefer to take your machine to a sewing machine shop and have them adjust it for you. On the other hand, if you would like to try and do it your self take a look at this link which will show you all of the steps involved and how to know when the tension is properly adjusted

Empisal 760C overlocker : the left needle thread does not engage in the chain

Try replacing with a brand new needle and confirm that it is firmly and correctly installed. If it still will not engage with the looper threads, then you should probably take it for service.

936 Huskylock needle bar does not move up and down.

First, make sure the machine is engaged to sew. some machines,
have a knob inside the flywheel on the left side that disconnect the sewing mechanism to wind a bobbin without the needle bar moving.

Why can't I use needle threader?

Hand rotate the handwheel until the needle is in the correct position. A lot of machines do not have the automatic needle height positioning function, so the user has to perform that task manually.

I need a repair manual or need to know why when i try to sew it wont pick up the bobbin thread

The easiest thing to try is replace the needle with a brand-new needle. If the needle is bent or damaged, it may not be engaging with the bobbin thread correctly. Also make sure it is installed with the flat side facing the correct direction. Be sure to Raise the presser foot before threading the upper thread so it will seat properly in the tension disks.

Why won't my sl370 work?

Hello Mary.
By the question, it looks like the lower looper is making loops? If so, check that you are using the correct needles for your serger and that the needle or needles is/are inserted correctly:
- needles must be all the way up into the needle shaft
- needles must face with the flat side to the back and the groove to the front
- use at least needle size 12/80, not smaller

Check these few items, if the loops are still not forming:
- re-thread the serger from the start, keeping in mind to thread in the proper sequence (upper looper, lower looper, needles)
- make sure that the lower looper thread lays on top of the upper looper thread and is passed to the back of the serger and then under the presser foot when threading
- make sure that the thread are securely engaged IN the tension assembly
- make sure that the serger is set for 3-thread or 4-thread overlock (i.e. that the upper looper converter is not engaged)
- check all tension setting
- stitch length should be around 2.5 - 3.5

Let me know how it goes.
Happy serging!

I have a Confidence 7470 purchased in May 2009. I was sewing tulle today and the thread kept snapping while sewing. I assumed it was catching in the tulle. The last time it snapped, the thread jammed in...

Sounds like your machine is off timing, When the machine is properly timed, you should see the hook passing behind the eye of the needle when the needle is on it's upward stroke. If this is not correct the machine will not pick up the bobbin thread. You may have to take it in for adjusting, unless your a bit machnical.

"Birdnesting" occurs when there is no tension on the needle thread to pull the bobbin thread. This is easily corrected by rethreading the machine, following the threading path carefully and making sure the thread is fully engaged in the tension mechanism.

Bobbin thread not feeding into the upper needle thread

completely unthread the machine....ensure the needle piston shaft is in the correct position and retread the upper. reinstall the bobbin and turn the machine by hand to engage the bobbin thread. Draw the bobbin thread through the stitch plate and with the needle thread, allow to trail off the back. attempt to sew a piece of scap material.

please let me know what happens at this point.
