Question about Garden

1 Answer

I had to take the pump off, or so I thought. It's been a while and the shaft on the washer is a little rusted. Should I lightly sand it and then apply a small application of oil on the shaft or not?

hello, that would be a good ideal to lightly sand and apply oil, make sure you get the key way and the grove lined up when you put back to gather.good luck.

Yes on the sanding, anti-seize would work better than oil though.

How to remove pump from a powerboss 020309 power washer

Remove the 4 mounting bolts and it will slide of the shaft if it's not rusted. If it's a little rusty it will take time and some good rust buster applied between the pump and engine onto the engine output shaft. Hope this helps, it's not always the easiest thing to do.

Replace Roller on MCG5500AW

if you already got into the dryer and are at the rollers all you need to do is remove the front clip with a needle nose plyers, the blades have to be thin enough to fit into the two holes on the clip, spread the clip open just a little, enough just to remove it,then slide the roller off, remove the old washer on the shaft, sand down the shaft and then slide the new washer on then the new roller, another washer and then the clip, you don't have to remove the back wall to change out the rollers.roller part number is 12001541

I have a fisher paykel washer that is not drain/spinning properly and I noticed a burning/hot smell. Anything i can do? It is 5 yrs old.

ours did the same thing with the burning smell also. I found that the pump motor kept tripping out from overheating and would not empty the drum thus telling the computer not to spin. I took out the pump and found that the rotor inside the armature had surface rust all around it so i gave it a light sand to clear the rust and whalah...no more tripping out, the pump motor needs to be disassembled to get at the rotor.

M pump has high pitch squeel and Polaris does

Yes. You have rust inside the motor possibly from a blown pump seal. If you replace the pump seal, and with sand paper remove most of the rust from the shaft the pump should be ok.

Water runs out of the bottom of the washer as rinse water runs in. Washer if top loading Whilrpool. Model #WTW5840SWO

Check the pump assembly ( this is a common pump ) first for a leaking problem, check fill valve, hoses, and center seal under the outer tank in the middle where the transmission goes inside the washer. The button catcher ( on older style washer ) on the side of the outer tank is also bad for leaking. See #'s 16, 17, 18 for the button catcher, grommet and clamp. Replace them all at the same time, the grommet is glued as well as clipped into the outer tank. With the use of plastic drain hoses on many machines today, this has become a common leak trouble maker. The drain hose can rub the wall or a pipe and this will rub a hole in the drain hose.

Changing a pump tips: This pump is pressed onto the motor shaft. The motor shaft often starts to rust and the shaft swells out and holds onto the pump...tightly!! Often need to...remove power, remove the pump clips, remove the hoses from the pump assy. if the pump assy will not lift off of the motor shaft, you may need to remove the motor & pump together and break off the pump assy. A hammer and flat screwdriver can usually crack the old pump so it can be replaced. Sand/clean the motor shaft before installing the new pump.

Dishwasher makes a high pitch whine when it runs

instead of motor check out the motor impeller that can make the high pitched noise if rusted or cracked. ------------- Motor and pump assembly screw and impellor help....

One of the most common question that I get on a dishwasher repair is "how does that motor and pump impellor screw come out?"
Inside many dishwasher pump assemblies is a screw that goes through the upper impellor and screws directly into the motor shaft. Since the motor shaft and screw are made of metal...you guessed it...they can / will rust. The screw can rust and become very tight and difficult to remove!! These screws are normally a right ( regular ) hand thread, socket or nut driver can be used to remove the screw. One hard thing to do is to hold the impellor still so the screw can be removed, they often just turn together. The impellor may be jammed with a screwdriver to hold it still so the screw can be removed...sometimes the impellor can be help still by placing a rag on it and hold tight with your hand, the rag will help prevent a sharp edge on the impellor from cutting your fingers. The odd time that screw is too rusted into place, soaking a little rust buster or 3in1 oil on it over night may help loosen it. Sometimes trying to tighten the screw a little at first will help break it free. There are some tool ( see below ) that can be purchased to help hold the impellor still so the screw can be removed, these are only for a few models and pump assembly styles.
WLP seal tool helps center and install the pump seal
Frigidaire seal - impellor remover and install tool
Once the screw is removed, the next obstacle is the impellor can also get stuck onto the motor shaft. Many times I have to break off the old impellor. A sharp blow straight down with a hammer and flat screwdriver will often crack the plastic impellor...careful not to damage the pump body! If the motor shaft has indeed rusted, clean it up really good with sand cloth.

I am trying to take the drain pump off of my washer and it seems to be stuck. how do i get it off?

the motor shaft is rusted causing the plastic pump to be stuck. you might have to cut thru the center of the pump with a chisel or flat screwdriver. once you get the pump off then you will have to grind the motor shaft down a little before installing a new pump. if the new pump doesnt just slide on and off easily then dont force it.

  • cut the center of the water pump where you see the red circle. cut all the way to the motor shaft.
