Question about Sanyo Xacti HD1 Memory Card Camcorder

Mp4 player How can I play the mp4 videos from the Xacti HD2 on the computer. All standard players Quicktime, realplayer, windows player give me an error while loading the files! THX for some help. I cant play MP4 files of HD (1920x1080) from my xacti HD1000 on any viewer ( tried Media v 11 and qtime 7) on my PC. I can load the files from the SD disk and save, but that is it. Also the ULead editing software from Sanyo on plays image change every 3 seconds or so, useless for editing or viewing. If I save on regular non HD mode, files can be read.

You can try Nero 8 ( which has a cool player (Nero Showtime) and a user friendly transcoding/DVD authoring tool (Nero Vision) to offer. You may also consider Videolan VLC ( which is free, open source, less user-friendly but it supports batch file conversion -- a realloy cool features when you have a dozen+ video files to convert.

I have no problem playing the Xacti HD2 files. I guess this is because I have the codecs installed in my computer.

I recommend the Combined Community Codec Pack which I don't really understand but if you download and install it in your computer it allows you to play most video file types.

The HD2 mp4 files are pretty bog-standard MPEG-4 files, and very different from the newer Xacti HD1000/1010 files. The HD1000/1010 uses the new "h.264" super-duper compresion format (all the rage in many cameras now) that requires a lot of processor power to decode.

You often seem to need a fast dual/quad pentium to play the files, without the sound lagging for instance.

While the quality is considerably better, the old Xacti HD1/HD2 is often sufficient for things like Youtube or even Vimeo (strangely, unless you upload in HD to Youtube the quality is not good).

I hear that the (HD1000/1010's) h.264 format is the future, but until all your computers are very fast, and afaik most laptops currently on sale in 2009 do not have the power, it is a risky way to go.

I enjoy my Xacti HD2 and I hear that the Xacti HD1 is only a little worse, in lower light. For the next three years, till 2012, I think that they are great for Youtube vlogging in daylight situations. Added to that, the the Xacti HD1 and 2 (like the HD1000) have a microphone input which is a must for anywhere outside of your room.

Nero 8 ( has a good AVC/MP4 commercial player (Nero Showtime) and a user-friendly transcoder/DVD authoring tool (Nero Vision) to offer, but the latest does not support batch transcoding.

Videolan VLC ( does it all. It is free, open source, and also support batch file conversion. However, it is less user friendly.

Hope it helped.

Step 3: Click "Settings" button to adjust video and audio parameters
Please notice that which parameter to choose has close relationship with the hardware configurations of your computer, so before your adjustment, read the following info attentively.

For viewing 640x480 standard definition (SD) H.264 video:
[*]2.0 GHz Intel or AMD processor
[*]512 MB RAM
[*]A DirectX 9.0-compatible video card with 32MB of video RAM, 64MB recommended

For 852x480 (480p) video at 24 frames per second:
[*]2.0 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or faster processor
[*]At least 512MB of RAM
[*]64MB or greater video card
[*]Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Vista or Windows 7

[*]3.0 Ghz Intel Pentium D (dual-core) or faster processor
[*]At least 1GB of RAM
[*]64MB or greater video card
[*]Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Vista or Windows 7

Well, now you are ready to change all the parameters listed on the following interface. My computer is fit for the above mentioned "1920x1080 (1080p) video at 24 frames per second", so I adjusted the settings as below:

Step 4: Click "Convert" button to start Blu-ray ripping.
As soon as the ripping work is completed, you can click "Open" button to get the exported H.264 .mp4 video with ease. Then, open your QuickTime Player, and follow "File" > "Open File" to well play them back with QuickTime.

A friend e-mailed a video he made on his laptop computer, i have downloaded realplayer, quicktime, vlc, windows media and safari, none of them will play it, what do i need to do to get it to play?

One quick solution for Windows-based machines is to try this's free. Another solution is to right-click the file and in the shell context menu click "open with". Choose a player from the list until you've found a compatible one. Windows Media Player will play most videos. I still recommend you give DivX a whirl.

Good Luck,

Computer will not recognize the mp4

To play mp4's on windows, you need quicktime installed. (you could as an alternative get the codecs for mp4's, but that may prove difficult. I used to use quicktime.) you can get quicktime from the following address:
I would use this instead of quicktime, because it is faster, and can play almost anything, not just mp4's.
VLC player is here:

Computer cannot read and play the .mp4 video files from my Sanyo XActi CMOS 1920X 1080 .Is there a software I can download from the net?

This is what the Sanyo CG9 Users Manual has to say about viewing videos taken with the camera:

"About video clip files recorded with this camera
You can use Apple’s QuickTime to play back video clips on a computer.
Playback may be possible using other software that supports the ISO
standard MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 (AAC audio)."

There are many ways to view mpeg-4 videos, but the one that is recommended for your camera from the CG9 support webpage is apple's quicktime available from apple here.

Sanyo Xacti VPC-CG9 movie downloading and DVD burning

I always recommend having a version of your users manual on your computer, because it is so much easier to search through the manual quickly to find what you are looking for.

You can find a digital version of the users manual for the Sanyo CG9 here, and you will also find the free software for downloading videos to your computer and watching them there.

Once your videos are on your computer, you can burn a data disc without any commercial software. Some DIVX or XVID dvd players will play these data disks and you can watch your movies like that. An .MP4 data DVD will hold much more video than a standard DVD video disk because it squeezes it much tighter. You can play your .mp4 videos through a PS3 using a data dvd or a thumbdrive.

If you want to convert your mp4 videos to a standard dvd that will play in any dvd player, you will need commercial conversion software such as ULead MovieFactory or Nero Vision. MovieFactory was included with some sanyo camcorders, but if you have lost your disk, they do not allow you to download it from their website.

I hope that helps!
