Question about Sanyo Xacti HD1 Memory Card Camcorder

Mp4 player How can I play the mp4 videos from the Xacti HD2 on the computer. All standard players Quicktime, realplayer, windows player give me an error while loading the files! THX for some help. I cant play MP4 files of HD (1920x1080) from my xacti HD1000 on any viewer ( tried Media v 11 and qtime 7) on my PC. I can load the files from the SD disk and save, but that is it. Also the ULead editing software from Sanyo on plays image change every 3 seconds or so, useless for editing or viewing. If I save on regular non HD mode, files can be read.

Re: mp4 player

You can try Nero 8 ( which has a cool player (Nero Showtime) and a user friendly transcoding/DVD authoring tool (Nero Vision) to offer. You may also consider Videolan VLC ( which is free, open source, less user-friendly but it supports batch file conversion -- a realloy cool features when you have a dozen+ video files to convert.

Re: mp4 player

I have no problem playing the Xacti HD2 files. I guess this is because I have the codecs installed in my computer.

I recommend the Combined Community Codec Pack which I don't really understand but if you download and install it in your computer it allows you to play most video file types.

The HD2 mp4 files are pretty bog-standard MPEG-4 files, and very different from the newer Xacti HD1000/1010 files. The HD1000/1010 uses the new "h.264" super-duper compresion format (all the rage in many cameras now) that requires a lot of processor power to decode.

You often seem to need a fast dual/quad pentium to play the files, without the sound lagging for instance.

While the quality is considerably better, the old Xacti HD1/HD2 is often sufficient for things like Youtube or even Vimeo (strangely, unless you upload in HD to Youtube the quality is not good).

I hear that the (HD1000/1010's) h.264 format is the future, but until all your computers are very fast, and afaik most laptops currently on sale in 2009 do not have the power, it is a risky way to go.

I enjoy my Xacti HD2 and I hear that the Xacti HD1 is only a little worse, in lower light. For the next three years, till 2012, I think that they are great for Youtube vlogging in daylight situations. Added to that, the the Xacti HD1 and 2 (like the HD1000) have a microphone input which is a must for anywhere outside of your room.

Re: mp4 player

Nero 8 ( has a good AVC/MP4 commercial player (Nero Showtime) and a user-friendly transcoder/DVD authoring tool (Nero Vision) to offer, but the latest does not support batch transcoding.

Videolan VLC ( does it all. It is free, open source, and also support batch file conversion. However, it is less user friendly.

Hope it helped.

Hi I am trying to transfer videos from Sony Handycam to PC. The files transfer and are saved as .avi but neither REAL nor Quicktime will play them back. There are various versions of PAL listed on...

Have you tried running the .avi video files in WMP (Windows Media Player)?
If that doesn't work. You can always convert the video files to Real or Quicktime formats.
Not sure if there are some free web sites that convert AVI Files.
If not, you could buy a lifetime subscription of one video converter for a low fee.
One good one is called MOVAVI.

Re: PAL Code selection. I think that it all depends in which region you're in so that you could playback the video on your TV via AV/Audio Cable.

Buried in the Sanyo Xacti GC9 Users Manual is a description of how to download the software required. (Page 167 lists the steps to access the weblink stored in the camera.)

Here is Sanyo's Support Page for the CG9.

The shorter answer is that the videos are apple quicktime .MOV format, so you need to install free quicktime drivers from here to view them.

Flip Video Not Being Reconized

Flip video Camcorder is a creative digital device produced by Pure Digital Technologies. Four series include: the Flip Ultra, the Flip Ultra HD, the Flip Video Mino, and the Flip Video Mino HD. Flip video Camcorder records video in .MP4 format, which is compatible for iTunes, iMovie, QuickTime Player. However, it is not understood by Windows Media Player and Windows Movie Maker. Is there any way to solve the problem?

iOrgSoft Flip Video Converter is an intimate friend of Flip video Camcorder. Owning it, you can encode flip video to common video formats: AVI, MPG, MPEG, WMV, FLV, SWF, MKV, VOB, DV, 3GP, MOV, RM, RMVB and extract audio track from the referred video formats to MP3, WAV, WMA, AAC, AC3, MP2, AMR, AIFF, FLAC, M4A, MKA, and RA files.

If you need to edit flip video in Windows Movie Maker, set the output profile as Raw AVI, MPEG-1, or WMV format, and then import the converted files into WMM. Like to enjoy the captured flip videos on your iPod, iPhone, Apple TV, PSP, Zune, BlackBerry, Gphone or other MP3/MP4 players? Just set the corresponding device profile.

Downloading videos to imovie on a Mac

This is what the Sanyo CG9 Users Manual has to say about viewing videos taken with the camera:

"About video clip files recorded with this camera
You can use Apple’s QuickTime to play back video clips on a computer.
Playback may be possible using other software that supports the ISO
standard MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 (AAC audio)."

Apple Quicktime downloads are available here.

Sanyo XACTI HD1 Camera-No Pictures / Videos captured.

I have intermittent problems of this type too. Occasionally I get a blank screen in the display mode.

Does the red light on the back of your camera flash while the screen is dark? Mine does.

It is beginning to bug me a lot. It may be because I got my camera wet in the past (and hence I have broken my camera), but I doubt that would result in a partial failure.

I think that the Xacti HD1/HD2 has issues a bit like a blue screen of death on an old Windows computer when faced with storage problems.

I.e. it works but crashes sometimes when it cannot store to its storage medium.

These things work for me
1) Turning the power on and off via the button underneath the screen.
2) Removing and re-inserting the SD card.
3) Turning the power on and off by removing the battery.
4) Using a different (and faster?) SD card.
I am still using my HD2, but I am finding that I must attempt solutions 1-3 about once a day.

It could be because the card I have been using recently is not fast enough. The HD2 accepts both SD and SDHC cards. My SDHC card (which is newer) seems to result in fewer problems, either because the SDHC format is more suited to the Xacti HD2 or becaues the SDHC card I have is faster that then SD card I have. I suspect problems with the speed of the card. I am using cheap SD cards.
