970 Cse cartridges bang over to the left and then nothing

Hello - I have a 970 Cse which was working great. Then all of a sudden it stopped working. When I open the top to look at the cartridges, I see that they are all the way over to the left. I can push them manually to any position, but when i fire up the printer, the cartridges bang over to the left and nothing happens. I have new cartridges in both the color and black and white. Any suggestions? Thanks Scott Burry Scott@ScottBurryRealEstate.Com

The cartridges in their mounting case, move freely, whether the
printer is off or on. They appear to be "on track".

Thanks for trying, and perhaps you are right to suggest having
the unit serviced at a reliable service center, but Im going to
donate this printer and another (HP) printer to the Salvation Army
where one armed guys learn to fix things. That's better than
land fill right? Thank you sir for trying. I appreciate it!

I had the same problem with my HP Deskjet 970Cse which was quickly resolved by going to the below HP site and looking under the Issue: The carriage is stuck or makes a grinding noise. Note that the blinking lights displayed as: Resume Light Blinking Simultaneously AND Power Light Blinking Simultaneously.

The Solution:
1. Lift the top cover to the printer.
2. Turn the printer off and then on again.
3. Unplug the power cable from the back of the printer when the grinding noise starts.
4. Move the carriage towards the middle of the printer.
5. Take out the cartridges and close the top cover.
6. Plug the power cord to the back of the printer. Turn the printer on.
7. Open the top cover, reinstall the cartridges, and then close the top cover.

Hope this helps as it worked for me.

I've had my HP DeskJet 970Cse since 2000 and *really* didn't want to junk it because of this problem I was experiencing -- especially since I was unimpressed with the newer HP models I saw at Best Buy or OfficeMax (eg, DeskJet 3050), which seem cheaply made. The above solution worked! I can now, I hope, continue to use this workhorse of a printer for another 11 years.

It sounds like they are off track. This may have been caused by moving them by hand. The best solution is to have the printer repaired by a service center, such as Best Buy or an authorized HP center

This link shows you your tub parts. There are 2 springs and 2 shock absorbers. Those may be bad broken or loose and one other thing to check is make sure the inside drum has not broken off of the spider assembly in the back. An easy way to check that is open the door and grab the front lip of the metal tub and try to move it up and down, you will notice a huge amount of movement if it is broken loose. The videos I posted apply to all front load washers, The first 2 are great on diagnosing and the last one shows whats left of a broken spider gear. If it is the spider support assembly then you will have to replace the entire inner tub and that is about $400 just in parts.

Good job in re-seating the cartridges into the printer. Try to insert a different known working cartridge to determine if your other cartridge has gone bad.

Color cartridge in Deskjet Cse is printing pink...Why?

Refilling is all right. I do it all the time! If the cartridge sits for a long time, the ink will dry up on the tiny jets. You may try wiping them with a cloth dampened with water and then running through a purge cycle on the printer. If that doesn't work, then you should go ahead and get it refilled.

The yellow light blinks and it won't print

I also started having problems with my HP 870Cse when I began using refilled cartridges and had ink leakage (cartridge contacts corrupted). Check for this problem. If so, remove cartridges and gently clean the spillage. Then try using HP brand cartridges and see if this doesn't remedy the problem.

Urgent printing!

Replace color cartridge so the printer doesn't consider it an error. You can print grayscale only in your print settings.
