Hello Beautiful! The major refridgerator manufacturers all strongly reccommend that if you must lay any fridge or freezer on its' side for moving, you should wait for AT LEAST 24 hours, once you place it upright at your destination, before you plug the unit back in.

Also, if while transporting the fridge/freezer, the temperatures are below 50 degrees, you should allow for another 8 hours for the unit to reach normal room temperature before you count down the 24 hours needed to return the compressor oil back to the unit and to allow for the proper separation of the refrigerent and oil, as they will get mixed when the fridge is placed on its' side for an extended timeframe.

The key is to not rush into plugging the fridge back in at the destination, even if that means an extra night of eating out, or using a ice cooler, etc. The money you save will be significant versus having to replace a blown compressor, or worse, the entire refrigerator.

Last tip, if you're putting the fridge into an unheated garage in areas that typically get freezing temperatures, it won't run very often, since the thermostat won't cycle the unit as frequently as needed and you'll likely see spoiled food and melted frozen foods in the freezer section.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

No, it won't be harmfull if you be patient when you get it there. When you get the refrigerator set back up make sure that you wait at least a few hours before plugging it back in. This gives the oil in the system time to run back into the compressor before you run it. Have a good time moving I sure am gald that it is not me. It is a lot of work!!

Hi:
If you have to lay your freezer on its side to move, it is ok, but I was told when I did it , but before you plug it back in, that you should let it set upright for 24 hrs after you stand it up, to give the compressor oil time to settle back where it belongs.

You may have laid refrigerator down during the move causing oil to migrate to the evaporator. If this has happened leave refrigerator unplugged for about twelve hours so the oil can slowly seep back down to the compressor. Trying to speed this process up will slow you down and may cause the compressor overload to fail. Once the compressor is ready to start cooling you can leave refrigerator plugged in, Thanks Sea Breeze

A 11 year old whirlpool fridge.. freezer working but not the fridge.. water dripping out from the shaft between freezer to fridge

HI, sounds like you have 2 problems. First of all, your drain pan in the freezer is clogged and will need to be cleaned out, second: this ice has caused an air flow restriction to the refer section. When you clear out all the ice, look for obstruction that you prevent clean air flow to the refer section. This should solve the problem.
You may have to remove all the food from the freezer, remove shelves and rear wall to clear all the ice. Failure to remove all the ice can prevent air from circulating from section to section. I would not suggest in using a hair dryer, too much heat in the wrong place can cause damage to the liner in the form of warping.
Turn off the unit while doing this de-icing, this will help greatly.
Good Luck

I bought a whirlpool fridge freezer last two weeks it was working fine but i noticed that the freezer is making too much ice when i set it at temperature 7 which is melting and i keep seeing water under...

Water under it is fine as long as it is not on the floor. It should be in a pan that came with the unit. You should have 2 temp setting for the unit..1 for the freezer and one for the frid. set the freezer for 5 to start. and then set the frig at 5. and adjust only the fridg side after a few hours. If this does not wrok call the place you bought it from as it may have a bad swthch on the indoor fan or a bad flapper door that allows cold air from the freezer to cool the fridg. But you have to start at mid range and adjust only the fridge side moving it up or down buy 1 number at a tiem.. Let me know know. I hope this helps Jon

Whirlpool side by side - freezer is fine. Fridge not cold

This is a common problem, and worth fixing if the frig isn't to old. The frig is making cold air just fine, which is a plus! All we need to do is get that air to circulate throughout the entire appliance.

Behind the freezer wall is a fan called an evaporator fan. This fan simply blows the air straight up the back of the freezer. From here it enters the frig at the top left and sinks to the bottom. Then it re-enters the freezer and continues its loop :D

So, either the circulation is being obstructed by something (maybe ice build up), or the fan is out.

Behind the freezer wall is the evaporator fan (that has probably stopped moving). Either ice build up (or some obstruction) has stopped it, or it has just served its time and needs to be replaced. Generally I would just replace it. You never know if it has been damaged from ice blockage or whatever the problem may be. If the motor is trying to spin and it is being held in place, bearing could be wearing out or completely gone which will just cause you more pain in the near future. So replace that puppy and you should be all set! :D good luck!

P.S. Naturally, if the fan is fine but you have something blocking the air flow, just fix the air flow problem in an apppropriate manor :)

Whirlpool fridge model # ed2fhgxkt04, ser # sm4434895. I am getting ice buildup in bottem of freezer. no ice on food or sides of freezer. where is defrost drain located to clear and or defrost it?

First off, if you get in a hurry, you can cause serious damage.
The machine must be unplugged, and allowed to completely defrost.
24 hours would be considered normal, but you can quicken that up some by placing a floor fan in front of the freezer compartment with the freezer door left open.
You can access the drain hose by removing the rear access panel.
Service techs then use compressed air connected to a hose and insert it in the end of the drain hose, and, BLOW AIR THRU IT GENTLY.
2 causes for this problem. one, the drain was in fact plugged up. Two, if the machine has an icemaker, the fill hose from the water valve to the ice maker is leaking, causing water to leak and then freeze in the bottom of the freezer.

Fridge not staying cold

Inside the fresh food compartment there is a defrost timer hidden behind the temp control panel. Sometimes there is a plastic plug over the hole that you need to put a flathead screwdriver in and slowly turn it clockwise. When compressor stops I want you to wait about 25 minutes to see if the refrigerator comes back on by itself without help. If it does I need you to listen inside the freezer compartment for sa sound of crackling or sizzling noise indicating defrost is taking place. Let me know, Sea Breeze

Fridge and freezer not cold enough since we moved

remove the panel at the reaar of the freezer. you should have a full frost pattern on your evaporator (frosted not snow packed) and the fan should be running. if you do not have a full frost pattern then you have a sealed system leak. covered under the first five years of your warranty
