Question about Sierra Generations Family Tree Liberty Edition Year 2000 for PC

1 Answer

My Generations family tree programme has been wiped from my computer because of a virus. I cannot remember where I got the programme from, as I have no disc for it. All the info on the initial programme has been stored on a back up disc. I am at a loss as what to do, as I am not certain which Generations edition I had. Please advise

It may well be some form of virus or spyware.

It may also be that you have too many applications running at once eg. lots of toolbars and instant message typ programs.

It can also happen on graphic intensive applications.

You should rule out nasty stuff first.

for a free one its pretty darned good !

From a CLEAN computer download and put on a flash drive.

Copy to your DESKTOP on the suspec computer.

Run it but dont change any options just use what it offers.

When its done let it clean anything it finds.

Its where I always start with an infected machine.

As for antivirus AVOID Norton or Mcafee but try the AVG FREE version MBAM should clean up without buying

Only continued use would require purchase As for too many applications that would be up to you to decide what you REALLY need and dont. Most toolbars are a waste of both time and space and can hog computers down. Maybe a good clean up is in order ?

It may just be a "leaking application"

These are badly coded programs that dont release memory when they should and just keep taking more to do the same job.

May I suggest you download

It is a program that can make a report on what you have running in such a way that you can post that information to certain sites and experts there will look at it.

They will then give you reccomendations as to how you can remove programs or fix some issues that may be upsetting your computer.

Dont post the log here but follow the nstructions and help the program offers to send it to one of the sites it will offer you.

If you understand startup lists you may even be able to spot som things yourself that you dont want to run and disable them from hijack this.

As for the program itself you would have to give us the full proper name of the program and the siftware vendor to be able to offer any advises on where to obtain a new copy.

Normally Iwould suggest "Broderbund" or somebody simlar like "Family Tree Maker"

Most good software has an IMPORT facility to allow users to UPGRADE to a new version and still be able to use the information they have painstakingly compiled.

I see no reason for that not to be the case with your software so long as you stay with the same supplier.

If it will install you can try to run in compatibility mode by right clicking on the install after installing and clicking troubleshooting compatibility and adjusting the settings in the new box that will pop up

Right click on the EXE File and select properties. Goto Compatibility and run it in compatibility mode for Windows XP. Disable visual themes, disable desktop composition, and disable high DPI scaling. That should resolve your problem.

Yes, it should run on Windows7, as I have done it some time ago. I have experienced a problem with the some printing options to PDF format, and I need to find a amyuni document converter to overcome this problem. mcdevito75 here, I would figure you could if it's on Disk (CD) If it is, simply un-install it on your old computer and install in your new computer. Hope this helps.

"Not enough free space" but there is plenty - Family Tree Deluxe

There might be 10.4 Gb of space on your hard disk but i am guessing that it would be on a different partition than the one on which you have installed this software which most likely is your C drive. So check your C drive whether it has free space or not and then if not then uninstall any softwares which you are not using frequently and also delete what you think can be deleted or transfer it to another partition where you have space. I think it should solve your problem.
