Question about Sony Handycam CCD-TRV107E Camcorder

Sony digital video camera Model: GR-D30U

When I turn the camera on to record, it says remove lens cap...and the lens cap is not on. It will record audio, but the screen stays black, as if the lens cap is really on. Weird

Your camera lens has a problem. If you have background repairing such. Try to open and clean the iris curtain(shutter) with methyl alcohol or any other alcohol base cleaner. Must be open and bring those curtain out to clean it effectively. Otherwise have it checked by JVC Service Center near you. Good luck

I have a JVC digital video camera (Mini DV). the screen is all black, it can still record but only a black screen. it recoreds sound only. the screen tells me to take off the ens cap when it is already....

I want you to do this to confirm which part has a problem. Look at your camera lens directly face to face and observe those tiny shutter inside while switching on your camera. You must see the movement of those tiny shutter and even hear some clicking, if so, CCD replacement is needed. Sometimes those shutter stacked up and shows the same symptoms. Hope it helps

Camer says lens cap on but it is not!

The internal iris is probably stuck closed. This is not a repair for anyone that has not worked on cameras before. The lens assembly must be removed and the iris section dis-assembled, and cleaned. Once that is done, it must be re-assembled. There is a possibility that the iris control motor is bad too. You can try tapping the side of the camera close to the lens area to see if you can free the iris, just don't hit it too hard.

Keep us posted.

Display is black even after removing the lens cap

See my post of before. I just knocked the camera on the floor by mistake and it miraculously started working again after years. Shows it must be mechanical and not related to software.

Assuming you don't see any video through the viewfinder, it could be that the CCD has died on that camcorder. It happens, though not frequently.

If the video though the viewfinder is clear, there might be some sensor on the lens ring to indicate a lens cap, or an automatic lens cap not properly disengaging when put in record mode.
