I have a VDR-D100 camcorder and I can't figure out how to get the videos onto my computer. I've tried every way I know possible, read the manual front to back a dozen times, and sill no luck. And now a message comes up saying I have to change the mode to accept USB and I have no idea how to do that. Please help!!!!
I had the same error today. The solution is the manual. If you dont have the manual you can download it from panasonic. If I had my camera with me i would wlk you through the steps. Start by pressing the mune button. Just navigate through the setup area.

you cant put the information on with the ac adapter which is behind the battery with 7.9v so u will need ur ac adpater while u are loading or it will not connect and thats what usb mode means. if you dont understand atleast phone the panasonic helpline because they have just helped me.
try buying ulead videostudio and it doesnt even need to be finalized. videostudio was great for me because i could simply put in my disc and then click on import from disc and it would import it onto my computer. hope that helps.
Just to clarify - when you say try to finalize the disc on the DVD recorder, do you mean the DVD camcorder i.e. the VDR D100? if not and you mean an actual DVD recorder then this is where your problem lies, as the disc can only be finalized in the VDR D100 unit itself. this could be the reason behind the poor quality when you watch the clip using windows media player.
If i've got the above wrong, and you were talking about finalization problems on the unit itself all along then the following might help: how full is the disc you are finalizing? if it is pretty full then delete one or two unwanted clips and try finalizing again (this worked for me when i had this problem).
if the disc is not really full then it gets trickier. let me know if it works
i have recored the sveral movie on the DVD-R disc using Panasonic VDR-D160 and then i take the DVD-R disc with me to leave for another country (the Panasonic VDR-D160 left at home) and now i can not read the moviesrecored on the DVD-R disc !!! Why this should be ? The computer view the empty disc although it contains several movies when i checked it from Panasonic VDR-D160 camera when i was at home !
