Every printer has a life expectancy/ number of papers it can print in its lifetime. Your has gone beyond that.
It's cheaper to buy a new one than to try to fix it.

Why is the orange light flashing five times then the green light flashes. the computer says there is an error and won't print. How can I fix it?

Any old print jobs still in queue? Click on printer icon in task bar or through control panel printers, cancel all print jobs if any pending. Make sure no paper jam in the paper feed of printer. Reinstall drivers. Make sure there is ink in the cartridges.

Epson Stylus PHOTO R220 red lights keep flashing

I hope this will help you :)
* Green Power light flashes- The printer is receiving a print job, replacing an ink cartridge, charging ink, or cleaning the print head.
* RED paper light is On- If the CD/DVD try guide is open, close the CD/DVD tray guide, load paper, then press the paper button. Your paper ran out or multiple sheets loaded at the same time . Load paper and press the paper butoon to resume printing.
* RED paper light flashes- Paper is jammed in the printer. Press the paper button to eject the jammed paper. If the light is still flashing , open the cover and remove all paper, including any jammed or torn pieces. Then reload paper and press the paper button to continue printing.
* RED Ink Light Flashes - One or more cartridges are low on ink. Check the message that appears on your screen to determine which cartridge is low, or follow the instructions in " Checking the Ink Supply". Make sure you have a replacement cartridge.
* RED Ink Light is ON- One or more cartridges are out of ink or not installed. If you have just installed a new cartridge, it may be incomaptible with the printer or incorrectly installed. Reinstall it or replace it with the correct cartridge
* RED Ink and RED paper lights flash alternately- The CD/DVD tray guide was left open when you turned on the printer or when printing on paper. Just simply close it/
* Green Power Light is Off; RED paperand RED Ink Lights flashing- Paper may be blocking movement of the print head. Turn off the printer, then open the cover and remove any jammed paper or other foreign objects. Turn the printer back on again. Or it may have an internal error. Turn off the printer, wait a few seconds, then turn it on again.

Amber light is blinking, error message when printing

Generally means that you're out of ink in your ink cartridge. Note that the NUMBER of times it flashes is significant: if it's 2 or 3 flashes at a time, then it's a paper problem (jam, out of paper, etc.), otherwise it's an ink problem (replace the cartridge).

Two lights not power light flashing intermitantly

If you mean the ink and the paper lights are flashing at different times (ie: paper on, ink off... then paper off, ink on) then your printer is telling you it needs a service.

Rather than reinvent the wheel, here's an article on the whole thing:
http://www.wasteink.co.uk/service-required/

You can find more information on your particular printer here too:

Paper in correct turned printer on red light flashing and will not print paper is blank when it comes out.

Red light flashing, do printing, paper blank out : ink low message. Ink level low, near to ink out level. But it just program, may be ink tank is out actually (no ink at ink tank). Refiil ink tank or replace w new one. Check Nozzle.

Ink refill and paper refill lights flashing although both are full

This is usually a general error and having had five of these printers I'd hazard a guess that the problem is being caused by the white plastic part of the printhead cleaning and parking system (located in the right side of the printer).

If your printhead is unable to reach the parking position (far right) you can be sure this is the cause. To solve it you simply slide the printhead left out of the way and then manipulate the white plastic piece down to the right and then back up into the correct connecting position with the black parking pad part.

If this isn't the problem then it's likely that some kind of other issue such as paper jam, disconnected flat cabling or bad cartridge chips/connection is to blame.

If you have any more intel on symptoms, range of motion, etc... I'll do what I can to help further.

Both Ink & Paper lights flashing!

Hi JayBirde Do the lights flash Together (not alternate) and is it a quick flash (0.1 second on 0.1 second off)? If so, check the Status Monitor for a message. If it says Fatal Error or General Error, then you have a task on your hands! If the lights flash alternate (0.5 second on 0.5 second off) then this indicates a maintenence error and the status monitor should say parts inside your printer have reached the end of their life - or something similar. This much easier to fix with an R220 Rescue Kit from www.TheServiceManualShop.com - use their search to look for R220 Rescue. If you can't find it, just drop them a line and they will create one for you. Delivery is via instant download so no waiting around to get your machine fixed. If you have a general or Fatal error it means the printers head can not move using the norm,al amount of force - i.e. something is in the way. You can check a few things: Ensure their is nothing in the path of the print head - paper, foam from the pad, head lock not retracting, toy soldier on manouvers in the mechanism etc Chech the encoder strip ( a grey-ish looking plastic strip, near the drive belt for the print head) is clean and attached. Check the lid for the ink cart cover is full closed.
