I also have the same problem with my 27" ViewSonic flat screen TV.  I left it off for about two weeks and the picture came back for about an hour.  Then it returned to total darkness.  Like yours, the audio and remote are fine.  Can't find anyone to fix it.  Are screwed?

I own a viewsonic 32inch also but i didnt get any sound and no picture either, but before this happened I also noticed on the right side of the screen i was getting a green cloud....sort of a fade.....Could this be something else or is this the same problem with the power chip??

  • Rocket80 May 11, 2010

    dkomher

You said your problem was a chip in the power supply. Could you be a little more specific - chip name/item number? Where did you purchase?

    Thank you

I have the same problem and I was told by a repair man to replace the main power supply or the lcd controler board. May cost about $200 to fix. Wbesite is shopjimmy.com I change the parts and tv woks fine.

If you know what the issue is you can call View Sonic directly and order the parts. I was told by View Sonic support that they do not have authorized service dealers any where. So if you can get someone to at least diagnose the issue you can then order the parts yourself. I know not the best solution but might be cheaper than buying a new TV right.

That is a coincidence. My tv went out the same night. But mine wont even turn on at all. So far I have had no luck finding anyone to repair it. Let me know if you figure something out and I will do the same.

There's 2 main issues I've had with this LCD TV I have a 40" one is the power will go and you won't be able to turn it on although you can hear a click when you try to. For this you need to replace the power board or what they call the inverter board you can order it direct from the viewsonic site (store.viewsonic.com)
The other problem is that the video will go out I had this happen about a year after I replaced the inverter board for this you'll need to replace the Main board. I recomend that if you get the power issue first just replace the main board assembly because I believe it comes with the inverter board (it did with mine). For my 40" tv it was $658.13 plus 42.78 tax and 6.60 shipping total $707.51. Hopefully that helps you decide to buy a new one or repair it.

Have the power supply module checked out, it can be as simple as a blown fuse or bad filter capacitors.

No picture, sound works, but along with high-pitched noise

My guess is that you might have the yellow (video) cable plugged into an audio input on the TV. Make sure that the yellow cable is plugged into both the video out on the DVD player and the video in on the TV. Most of these connections are color coded.

As a diagnosis, try changing the TV input (using the remote) and let me know if you still get the buzzing on the other inputs. If no, then, it's most likely your RCA connections. If yes, it's another problem.

ViewSonic TV sound but no picture

If an LCD TV has sound but no picture do the following:

Use the source button to ensure that source is not set to the wrong input.

Try unplugging power cord for ten minutes, to ensure it is not a setting problem.

Check all the video cables at the back of TV.

Check Light /Color settings.

If problem persist and does not depend on external receiver or settings, then it is likely an internal fault.

If it has sound but no picture then one of the following parts is faulty, and must be tested and replaced:

Theinverter is the high voltage board that provides variable power to thebacklight lamp. This is the most common. When inverter is faulty youcan get no picture, or a very dim picture that can only be seen bypointing a torch light with a 45 degree angle on the LCD surface fromvery near distance.
The inverter must be tested by reading voltages with a multimeter.

The LCD ribbon cable/LCD display and connectors.
Thisis quite uncommon, but happens. If the TV had been hit or moved the LCDcable may have slipped out, or the LCD connector may be damaged.

The LCD controller board.
Thisis the board that controls the video signal, it is difficult to test,as there is need to read determined values on IC pins. To test thisboard you need to purchase a service manual and follow thetroubleshooting diagrams on service manual.

Input/Output Signal boards.
This are the boards where youconnect the video and audio cables, if a signal board is defective, then you may get no picture on particular inputs located on faultyboard.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual.

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

Viewsonic LCD TV - Picture/Sound goes out after 1st power up

Hi visceran,
I am happy to help, unfortunatly your main/input board is malfunctioning, it is a problem with the processor. I had a 32' Viewsonic on my bench last week with the same symptoms.
If the tv is new you should contact Customer Service asap, also check on the return policy of the store you bought it from. Many times it is alot easier to return to the merchant than to ship to repair facility.
Let me know how it goes and if you need further assistance.
