There are a couple generic audio drivers. But before that why are you looking for standard audio drivers? Regardless which OS you are using (Win XP, VISTA), you will find a generic set of audio drivers included with the OS. This is for basic audio output. If you have a specific audio card installed you should be using the drivers from the manufacturer to get the best quality from the card. Although odds are you do not have an add-on audio card. Chances are you are using the audio out puts supplied on the motherboard. This is far more common now because motherboard manufactures are able to get pretty great sound from on-board mounted audio processors.

If this is the case then those are the drivers you want.
If this is a pre-built system you should go to the computer makers web site and grab the drivers there. If it's a home brew computer check out the motherboard makers web site.

If you want to download the best possible fit for the majority of on-board audio as well as add-on cards that would be Realtech. Just click the link and when the web page open click the check box. When the next window opens find your OS and click go for the drivers.

http://www.realtek.com.tw/DOWNLOADS/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=23&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Steps for installing audio drivers that came with the OS:

  • Click "Start" and "Control Panel." Then double-click "Administrative Tools" and "Computer Management."
  • Choose "Device Manager" in the field on the left-hand side of the screen.
  • Look for "Sound, video and game controllers." Click the plus sign (+) next to that field. This will expand a list of devices under sound, video and game controllers, which will include your sound card or on-board sound device.
  • Right click on your audio driver in the list and select "Update Driver."
  • Follow the instructions and Windows will automatically search for and install any driver updates.
I hope this helps.

In my pc audio drivers were gone. I installed audio drivers with Driver CD but installation was failed. So I downloaded audio drivers from internet according to mother board model. And installed again...

When you are using Windows 7 or up, only drivers certified by Microsoft are allowed to use. Microsoft has made the Windows versions strong enough to reject old drivers. So when the manufactures of the motherboard does not write newer drivers, that comply to the Microsoft standard, you won't be able to install these drivers. Perhaps a third party did write some, but when it is an old board, I can't give you much hope.

Avance ac'97 audio for via audio controler

You should be able to use the AC97 codecs available from Realtek for your device. There is a choice of two - standard AC97 or AC97 HD (both are available from the link provided), one of these should be compatible.

Post your results here, especially if you encounter a problem installing the drivers or if this doesn't fix your problem.

I have a Compaq Presario PC but don't have the audio driver

One of the most common audio chipsets is the AC97 standard codec from Realtek. The other is the AC97 HD codec. I would try these first to see if it solves your problem.

If these don't work for you please post the exact model number of your machine so I can properly reference it when searching.

Post your results here.
