Either the temp sensor or temp control circuit is faulty. The sensor is behind the inside panels. You can go to repairclinic.com or partselect.com for parts, manual, testing procedures and more. Feel free to ask any other questions. You can test any low powered unit with an ohmmeter.

Sub Zero 700 suddenly stops after 12 years. Compresser is burning hot.

The compressor will normally be 100 to 110 degrees. I would suspect the thermostat or mouse damage in the freezer area. Also, if you keep it overstocked, to the point of poor air circulation, you could just have ice blockage. Put the frozen food in a styrofoam cooler or a good heavy corrugated box and give the unit a good full defrosting.

Freezer turns of in cold weather

Many residential refrigerator / freezers are designed to work at temperature considerably above above freezing. Most modern refrigerator / freezer have a single electric thermostat - located in the fresh food compartment. This lone thermostat will control the compressor to keep the fridge (fresh food) section at the desired temperature (usually between 34 - 38 degrees F). The freezer will get colder regardless of how cold it is already whenever the fridge thermostat turns the compressor on.

Now that you see how the thermostat works, let's look at what happens when the fridge is placed in an unheated space - like a garage. In winter time, the temperature can drop considerably below 38 degrees. If the outdoor temperature remains cold enough, for long enough - it will affect the thermostat in the fridge. The temperature inside the fridge could drop below 38 degrees, preventing the thermostat from telling the compressor to turn on. Meanwhile, the temperature in the freezer compartment slowly rises from the normal -10 to 0 F degrees. It will continue to rise until it is the same temperature as the fresh food compartment or until the thermostat in the fresh food compartment tells the compressor to turn on again. This means the freezer contents will thaw.

If the temperature in the garage is even in the 40 to 50 degree range, the loss of cold in the fridge may not happen often enough to keep the compressor coming on often enough to keep some freezer items frozen solid - such as ice cream. Remember, water freezes at 32 degrees F, other products may require lower temperatures to remain frozen, and could thaw at 28 or other temperature.

Good luck!

Is there a way to remove the drawer in the bottom freezer?

Pull the drawer all the way out until it stops. Then lift the front of the freezer drawer (a couple of inches), and pull out further (4-6"). The front will then lower to the floor. Lift the back of the drawer upward and slid the entire drawer forward. You may want to protect your floor. I did the above with the freezer drawer full and scratched my floor a little...

turn your unit up to 40 degrees, by the time the upper portion hits 38 degrees the bottom is close to 6 degrees colder than the upper, by physics cold air is heavier and falls, plus w/o a fan down there it will freeze quicker, just like a cold night outside with no wind to speak of,try this once, also you may want to shuffle the food around the refrig box and try different levels, iI know that the veggies belong in the lower crisper drawer usually though

Temperature goes up

do you hear any fans running?  by the temp staying cold on the drawers whih are in the lower area of the freezer it indiates to me that the fans are inoperable. to test open freezer door then push in light switch by hand and listen for the fans to come on. if it turns out you have bad motor you most likely will have to call a sub zero dealer to have repaired. messge me back with any questions peyton

Freezer not working on Sub-Zero 550 Refrigerator/Freezer

You probably need to defrost freezer - frozen moisture possibly stockedevap. fan motor in the freezer. Turn it OFF for 24 hours and start itover. Make sure no moisture condensation on the freezer compartmentsurfaces as walls and shelfs. If so wipe it out. Pull out and remove upper basket from the freezer, push fan switch which is located almost under ice maker. You have to hear evaporator fan motor start working. Still not work?
