I am rusty on Mac's and can't offer any specific help, but I am wondering if your problem is in fact not a partitioning problem, but something else.

In the case that it is a partitioning problem, most operating systems (I assume OS X follows the herd on this one) have a partitioning tools on them somewhere. Have you tried formatting the drive?

Also, I hope you take no offense to this, but are you sure it's "partitioning" you're having a problem with, and not "reading", "writing", "formatting", "installing", or "mounting"?

You could try the company's website for tools that should let you do what you need to in order to get the drive to work.

Hp dc5800 recovery cd lost ibought new hd how could i make new recovery partition in the new hd?

There isn't any way to build a new recovery partition on a new empty hard drive. The recovery partition is put on when the drive is imaged at the manufacturer, but you don't have any source to copy from. If you don't have a recovery disc set, you have two options. The first option is to see if HP sells a recovery disc for your computer. It's unlikely, and expensive if they do have them available.

The second option is to do a fresh installation of Windows yourself. This is a little more work, but it's not difficult. You'll need a copy of Windows, the same version that came installed on the computer. (For a Vista machine, you just need the "Anytime Upgrade" DVD, which has all the Vista versions on it.) You'll also need to download any hardware drivers needed from HP's website. The installation is mostly automatic; you just need to enter the product key at some point, and you'll find that on the Windows sticker on the computer case. After Windows is done installing, install the hardware drivers and activate Windows. (When the recovery partition or a restore disc is used, the activation is automatic.)

Here is a link to Microsoft on how to get to and use disk management. I do not know what operating system you are using but disk management has not changed a lot. The link below references XP and if you follow this step by step it will work great.

Installing new OS

If you chose delete partition, ensure that you have saved your data, this will delete all data and format the hard drive to install your new system.

It is the est way to get rid of viruses, bue it will delete everything from hard disk.
If you chose delete partition, chose create new partition afterward, and then format. That is the way it works.

Restore Hardrive to Factory Settings, Missing Hidden Partition

Yes Claudia you are right. When you wiped the hard drive you deleted the partition that contained the systen restore (factory restore). You will have to purchase a new copy of Vista. It will not contain all of the other programs that came with your computer originally.
Before you installed Windows 7 it clearly states that you have to back up your system before you install it on your hard drive.
Why didn,t you keeep windows 7, if I may ask? If you made a copy of it (which you had to do when you insatlled it) reinstall it and use it. Microsoft will let you purchase it for $50.00, which is a lot less that what it will cost you to purcase Vista Home Premium.

Seagate 250GB FreeAgent USB 2.0 Ext Hard Drive with laptop

Whether your computer is a laptop or desktop does not inherently decide if the drive will work or not. If it can't see the connection, there must be another problem with the drive. I would suggest reporting what you have done to try and make it work and anything you notice out of the ordinary (how lights on the drive are acting, noises the drive is making, alerts you see when you plug it into your laptop, etc). That will allow us to better help you find a solution to the problem.

Partitioning ext. "MY BOOK"

You don't need to format it. You can also just convert it to NTFS and keep the current data.
There is also no requirement to create more than one partition.

In the command prompt window, type
convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs

You'll find this in Windows Help. Just search for convert ntfs.

I ve just bought a lacie desktop hard disk 500gb and its not doing anything

New hard drives are "Raw" and have to be formated for any Operating system to recognize it. If the Hard drive is installed I would suggest, if you have a Win98 cd, boot from that, select with cd rom support, at the prompt type in fdisk, Fdisk will display all fixed disks present, select your new HD and configure it, with large disk support, etc.

If you don't have a win98cd download GParted live cd and burn on cd. and boot with that it will display all hard drives and you can select your new HD and format it to fat 32 or ntfs or linux ext partitions/swap files.
