2 Answers

I own the above laptop, my hard drive had recently crapped out on me so i went and purchased a new one, i inserted the hard drive, the computer seems to see it in the ROM setup and I am able to do a HDD self test to 100%, but when I goto install an OS it tells me i have a non system disk. I have tried switching the jumper from master to slave, vice versa, completely keeping it off and i still end up with the same result. Help plz?

Apparently, the hard drive needs to be formatted with a logical drive to install the OS. If you've no format software, go to the following link:
Gparted Live CD to download an ISO which is bootable from either a CD or flash drive (assuming you can boot from a flash drive on your machine, check BIOS boot order for availability) Once installed follow the instructions on that same download page to create a boot partition. Once the logical partition has been created, you should be successful in installing your OS. Best of luck!

What OS are you trying to install? If it is XP and the HD is SATA you may need to set the SATA driver in BIOS to legacy OS. Hard to believe XP is legacy but I have had this issue w/Compaq laptops.

HP Pavillion dv6700 - black screen

Do the following without the battery inserted.

Let the computer sit with no battery for 24 hours. Do not put the battery in at all. Try using your original memory stick ONLY, with no hard drive and see if it will POST. If it does, insert the hard drive and try again. Could be the new memory...

Another thing you can try is reseating the processor. Turn the ZIF screw, take the processor out (WATCH THE PINS!!) and put back in GENTLY. Leave the memory in the computer, hard drive removed, try to power on.

These models have been known for bad motherboards. Contact HP and arrange to send it in. If you do enough digging on HPs website, you'll find the service advisory.

Acer Desktop won't boot after recovery

Why not use your new hard drive as a storage disc. Reconnect your old hard drive as it was before. Hopefully it will boot the computer again. If it does, shut down the unit. On the primary bus, set your old HD as master & the new HD as slave with jumpers. Boot the unit & hopefully you will now have a "c"&"d" HD showing in My Computer. Remember that your are dealing with Windows & what should happen & what really happens can be two entirely different things.

goto Control Panel, administrative tools, Computer Management, Disk Management, If it pops up a new disk install wizard follow the directions in it. If not then find the new disk that has no partition on it, right click on that drive to create a partition, then right click on the drive to format it, if it hasent done so already.
