You should have had 2 cds that came with your computer. The 2nd one has all the drivers on it. Install the drivers and your problem will go away.

Got a spare PCI network-adapter card, that you can install?
Install it, and hopefully, Windows XP will install the correct device-drivers for it. If that happens, connect the Ethernet cable to this card.
Then, double-click on that "Ethernet controller" and click "reinstall driver".
Windows will try to download the device-driver, and install it.
Then, you can remove that "spare" network-adapter card,
and reconnect the Ethernet cable to the built-in Ethernet port.

Hi,

You are on the right track!
It sounds like you still need to download and install the LAN driver.
When you go to THIS website you will see the third file you can download is the LAN Driver - Nvidia Ethernet Driver.

After you install the driver and restart your computer should detect if you are connected to the internet via LAN cable.

Hope this helps!
Please let me know if this information was helpful!

Kind Regards

mak sure you have installed the drivers correctly. to know, you cna go to device manager, by clicking start, click control panel, click system, click hardware, then device manager, do you see any yellow exclamation mark or red X? if one of those say network adapter or ethernet adapter then the driver is not installed. if you cant see any yellow exclamation point or mark. all drivers are installed.

Ethernet not working after format and xp reinstall

Right-click the My Computer icon and select Manage, then go to the Device Manager in the list on the left and find the Network Adapter from the list on the right, right-click Network Adapter and select Uninstall. When you reboot, XP should find the Adapter and reinstall it automatically. Another reboot may be required.

If it still will not connect, go to the NIC Manufacturer's website and download the driver to removable media. The Driver Update option can be accessed in the Device Manager, but this time select Properties when you right-click the Network Adapter, and go to the Driver tab.
