Question about Poulan Wild Thing 2375 18" Gas Chain Saw 2.5 Cuin

2 Answers

When replacing a magneto on a Poulan 3416 chain saw, what is the gap setting between it and the crank? The owners manual states that the magneto is nonadjustable. It appears adjustable to me with slotted mounting holes. The saw seems to have a weak spark but I dont know how to gauge that. The saw wouldnt start so I tore it down for a complete cleaning and reassembled. I primed it and it started right up and ran long enough to cut 1 10" log then died. Wont restart. Checked for spark and got it but it just doesnt seem strong. Gonna check compression tomorrow but am concerned that the magneto gap setting is off. Thanks John

Like aviatur said but a business or index card. Rotate it and make certain nothing drags when everything is tight. Lou

I usually use a piece of tag board or cerial box. You set it with the magnets inline with the coil. That is why I used something made out of tick paper, so it doesn't stick to the magnets.

Hi, gap should be 8 thou. Try this with a new plug. Check the magnets on the flywheel. It is possible to have a faulty new magneto but not that likely. Also check that the sparkplug terminal is contacting through the high tension lead correctly. Regards Phil.

The saw is a poulan 3416 ,2 yr old, purchased new. the problem is starts ok 6 primer pushes idles ok then will either die after first cut or as soon as you pull trigger

Run too lean, this is fuel starvation, remove the fuel line from the tank and replace the filter on the end, check the fuel hose from the tank up to the carb for leaking or cracking.

Gap between magnato

Use a clean and dry business card to set the gap from magneto to flywheel. It is almost the perfect (.006") gap setting.
Good luck!

What are the high and low carburetor settings on a poulan 3416 chainsaw?

are they two separate screws? one for fast, one for slow.for the slow setting, first start the saw then screw until motor runs smooth without chain moving....if to slow the motor will stop....for fast screw....rev motor flat out then adjust so it screams its head off so to speak....it will need all its power for cutting wood so don't think you are opening it up to much as its designed for it.

I have a p-3416 poulan saw it is getting spark but the saw still wont start

It's not getting gas. Possible wrong mix oil to gas, but not real likely. Possible sat over the last winter with gas in it and varnished. I'm guessing this is the one, more likely than not. take cover and filter off and clean and bag 'em. pour carb cleaner in the carb and soak overnight. Dump out (carb cleaner and old gas)into a sealable jar or can and fill with straight gas and soak an hour and dump into trash gas/carb cleaner. Use a bicycle pump to blow air into carb to dry it. At most use a computer air can. Then start with the right gas/oil mix, prime it, set the trigger and choke and drop start. (It helps to have the spark plug out during the soak. Then clean it and sandpaper the gap and the magneto area on the flywheel).

Ignition module gap
Place a business or index card between the fly wheel and coil, rotate until the magnetic attraction pulls everything tight together. Tighten the coil screws, rotate the flywheel until the attraction eases and remove the card. Ensure nothing contacts when flywheel is rotated.

I NEED TO KNOW THE SPARK PLUG GAP AND MAGNITO GAP FOR A POLAN CHAINSAW MODEL # 2375

Spark plug gap is .025

As for the air gap in-between the flywheel, and magneto, I generally start with a piece of notebook paper in-between them.

After the bolts are snugged down, turn the flywheel by hand to spin the paper out.
