The coils freezes up frequently. Most recently, w/in 3 days; before it took months. The defrost timer clock hasn't worked over a year I think. It stays in the same time as I leave it in. Do I just need to replace it with a new defrost timer?

If your defrost timer is not working then you will have problems with freezing the coils. When it is humid out and you are in and out of the unit the problem will be worse. To eliminate this problem you will need to get and install the timer. Do a search for "appliance parts" and checkout a number of the suppliers as the prices can vary a lot. All you need to find your part is the model # and sometimes serial# of your unit.

Frigidaire side by side model # FRS20ZRGW3 coils freeze up on freezer side, fridge side gets warm

You have a defrost timer behind the front kick plate turn it clockwise slowly until compressor and fans stop. Once this happens the timer should remain off for 30 minutes and the defrost heater should come on during the first 15 minutes. If after 30 minutes the defrost timer part=> 215846602 Defrost Timer Assembly should come out of defrost and the compressor and fans should restart, if not advance the timer clockwise until they start and replace timer. Try that first and tell me what your results are. If that is not the problem then we can narrow this down to the defrost heater=> 218657301 Defrost Heater or 5303917954 Defrost Thermostat How to test the defrost heater is found on same page as the defrost heater. Frost free freezer keeps frsoting up. It's a french door refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom. The vent is not blocked. The door has not been opened frequently. The appliance is only 9 months...

Sounds like a defective defrost timer
If its a frost free upright freezer and the evaporator is frosting up with a snow like frost you have a defrost problem.. defrost themostate, heaters, or timmmer
Also note that
Dirty condenser coils are not the problem. It's most likely the defrost timer or defrost heater. The heater should come on about 3 times per day to melt the ice on the evaporator coils. If the defrost timer is not turning on the heater or the heater is burnt out, the coils will freeze up......

Hope this helps

Sounds to me like a bad defrost control or a clogged drain line to remove the water after the defrost cycle has ended so the water just freezes again!

MSD2656GEQ The coils on the freezer side ices up, then does not cool the refridgerator side

Hi, It's a common problem with no-frost refrigerators, you have a defrost problems, two scenarios. (1) hot air entering freezer/refrigerator, examples. hot summer days, regular openings, high room temperatures, hot foods and broken door gasket, leaving freezer/refrigerator doors slightly open overnight, could cause your evaporator (coils) to freeze/ice up. cases like this, unplug/disconnect your refrigerator, remove produce, clean and let it defrost, for an hour, make sure all ice melted. plug or reconnect your refrigerator let it work/ run empty for another hour, then put back your produce. sure it will work perfect for the next 3-4 days. (2) next type of defrost problem could be faulty defrost heater, defrost thermostat, you will have to open back panel on freezer side to check. check your defrost heaters, defrost thermostat and defrost timer, it's better to change defrost timer and defrost thermostat together, or change faulty ones independently. but before you change any parts, clean and defrost refrigerator first, could just be regular openings, hot days, etc. if after 3-4 days it started to ice up, then check following parts. defrost heater. defrost thermostat and defrost timer, let me know if icing occurs after 3-4 days then we can check those parts i suggested. remember to always disconnect/unplug your refrigerator, before attempting any repairs. good luck

also check defrost timer, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

It just quit after a couple of months of very little use.

Most likely you have a defrost problem. When you unplug it for a couple of days, it thaws out and you plug it back in and it works until it freezes up again. Possible problem ...1 of 3...defrost timer...2 of 3...defrost heater...3 of 3...defrost bi-metal.

Samsung French Door Refrgerator - New

Only two months old? Couldn't you complain to the store?

The way the defroster works is this: There is a defrost timer under the refrigerator. (I'm guessing based on other brands.) That turns on the defroster about three times per day. The defroster is a heating coil with the freezer coils. It heats that until the defrost thermostat gets warm; then it quits defrosting.

My guess is that the defrost thermostat doesn't turn off the defroster... that it continues defrosting until the defrost timer turns the defroster off.

So if you want to fix it yourself, dig into the defrost coils. I don't know where to look on a French Door refrigerator. Find the defrost thermostat, an inch wide unit with two wires. Test it for continuity while it is warm. There should be none. Frozen there should be continuity.

Hope that helps.

Leave to cool in the area of refigerador

If there is frost on tube going to compressor, either there is to much charge gas if recently recharged or the freezer is not defrosting as it should and needs to repaired. This usually follows with the freezer not freezing food correctly. If so the defrost timer or defrost heater coils are at fault. The timer is under the unit, the heater coils are attached to the freezer section evaporator coils which heat during the defrost cycle to thaw out the coils completely. Unplug the unit and let it defrost completely and the plug it in and see if the problem returns in the first day. If not, but returns after a day or two, then the problem is in the defrost circuit. This is not hard to figure out if you can use a volt ohm meter, but should be done by a technician since getting into the panels can be tricky....
