Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 (gateway) graphics card

Hi - my computer randomly keeps having what seems like maybe a graphics problem. It will suddenly have fuzzy colored lines and rectangle boxes all over the screen and the computer stops responding. Is this a graphics card problem or something else - maybe corrupted system files?
Also rebooting makes it return to normal. There was also a problem with the computer just rebooting itself after flashing back and forth between desktop and black screen but that seemed to have stopped after recovering some system files that had been deleted. Could the 2 problems be related? My next step was to reinstall windows or at least scan for and repair any corrupted system files - would this be the correct thing to do? Have already run spyware, virus, rootkit and malicious software scans. Also ran hijack this.

The monitor is new. I already blow dust out of the computer periodically so it is not full of dust. Also updated the drivers already when first noticed the problem. Going to try the screen on another PC and see if same thing happens and will try reseating the graphic card as you said.

    Thanks for your help.

you have the symptoms of red ring of death... it is caused by the gpu section over heating on the board and getting intermittent connection causing graphic errors, then all the sudden u will get the rings and no screen... u can try to hot box it or just call microsft and they will send u a box to send it in... been there dun that!
(hot boxing: wrapping up the xbox in 3 towels while turned on for 32min the let cool for 30 then play on borrowed time) not a fix all the graphics errors will come back

Printing fuzzy / bleed text with fuser saying needs changing soon!

Hi the blurring maybe down to the machine needing a color registration. Press the menu button then press either the up or down arrow to Maintenance press enter or # the using the up down keys again select color registration enter or # then print registration sheet once printed select M Y C or B and input the number that is on the printed sheet that corresponds to the straightest line. Once you have done this exit and try printing.

If that doesn't work then within the driver on the computer under printers and faxes right hand click on the printer select properties. Within properties you will be able to change the graphic mode please try this.

The fuser unit will need changing as they only have a life span there are no benefits to resetting as you will need to change it anyway. If you do not change the fuser then it will break leaving you with a bigger problem.

I do hope the above works for you.
Thanks J
