Washer will fill but won't "wash"

I have a Ultimate Care II that is 3 years old. One day it filled and started agitating and then stopped in the middle of the washing cycle. Now it will only fill and then clicks like it's advancing to the actual agitating washing cycle but nothing happens. It won't drain, won't agitate, won't spin. The only thing it does is fill. I have replaced the coupler and that was not the problem. I'm spending so much money going to the laundromat...HELP!

It's the same clicking sound it normally makes when the knob is turning for it to go into the next part of the washing cycle. Then it makes a humming noise like it wants to work but there is obviously something not working to not let it agitate or do anything further. Like I said I have already replaced the coupler. I had read something about replacing the solenoid...now something about the timer. I appreciate your help.

Well that sounds expensive...wonderful. Any more helpful information...like just forget it and buy a new washer? ha ha

Well I think I'm having someone come out to look at it. There are too many possibilities of what it could be and all the work it took to get to the coupler...I would rather have someone who knows what they are doing look at it and find the problem then me replacing one thing and another.

The only 2 things that i've ever hear going bad on these are the couplers and the timers.

Is the motor running at all after it fills?

the first thing i would go for is the start capicator if you changed the motor coupling then you know how to open the case its on the back wall its a black plastic tube with two wires on it id replace it if that doesnt get it change the motor

  • robert samples Jan 11, 2008

the capacitor is about 10 or 15 bucks the humming you hear is the motor trying to start the start capacitor gives it a boost till it starts then the motor switches to the run windings some times i have seen the terminals on the start capacitor burned because of loose connections motor is about 100 bucks device to test capacitor ia about 30 to 40 bucks so id just replace the capacitor and go from there after checking the terminals first thats how id procede

well i can respect that but i am a pro with 26 years total experience when you get into your kind of a problem can be a lot of things its not an everyday problem and take equipment and training to test so your doing the right thing when you call some one make sure he is factory authorized tech as some parts are under extended warranties but you have to be factory authorized to take advantage of that im giving you my best based on my experience of your problem i wish i could be there in person good luck

The couplers are about $15 and relatively easy to change.

Stops in the middle of wash cycle

Hi!

If the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:
It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.
It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Yes if its filling slow do to a blockage in a screened hose it will .If it never stops filling and doesnt over flow than its syphoning the water and you need to elevate thr drain hose higher than the water level and it will kick into wash. Please rate This !!
