Question about Panasonic PT-47X54 47" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Convergence problems My 47" TV has recently started to have problems. At first the Red and Blue were pulling towards the outside edges of the screen, so I went in and did the 9 point manual convergance for the Red and the Blue. This seemed to help but the image was still a little blurry. I turned on a DVD for the kids tonight and noticed it looked like it was getting a little worse so I pressed Auto Convergence and now it looks worse than it did. The Blue color is very bold and the red and blue have 1/8" to 1/4" mis alignment / Bleeding. Please let me know if anyone has an Idea of what part could cause this. The actual part number is PT-47WX54J Thanks in Advance. Jason

Re: convergence problems

I would suggest the convergence ICs as well as a couple resistors right near the Convergence ICs mst likely. 90 % of the time thats the problem. They are not expensive, if you can solder you can handle it if your careful with your solder and use heat sink compound. The ICs will have a number stamped on them usually STK XXX-XXX on a huge heat sink. The following link will have replacement parts Hope this helps you out

Hello, I have a mitsubishi ws-65907, It has

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms
  • Screen Looks 3-D
  • Colors wont align
  • Screen may look distorted or warped
  • No Audio/Video - makes a chirping sound.

Panasonic pt-47wx53g red is out of convergence range

Have you moved the TV recently?, if so the red can(Red source) in the back bottom of the TV may have physically shifted in its holder, this is common when a rear projection tv is moved, jostled. Take the back off, look at the three cans,Red, Blue, Green, see if they all look like they are nested the same, bet the red is shifted a little.Good Luck with it!

Shadow images and scrolling banner curves upward and back down.

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Sony 43 inch rear projection tv, I have lined up the convergence but still seeing red and green around edge of the tv on the images, seems fine in the middle of the screen though.

Always start at the vary center of the screen with Green. Position Red over Green, then Blue over what now will look yellow. If all is perfect except the outside, you will need to adjust "Mid-Size" until the middle is just as far off as the outside lines. Then adjust the main "Size" adustments to match. Go very slow or you can make a mess of it.

Convergence issue

try fixing the convergence 2 after your've aligned the convergence 1 - the second (accessed via the set up control) let's you adjust on 9 different axis to align the red and blue tubes to the green. you select which + sign you want to adust by pressing the corresponding number for the + ie 1 for the top left, and 9 for the lower right corner.

good luck (note - you cant change the green only the red and blue, if the whole edge is a mess try moving the image (you need to be in zoom mode, and then access the position adjustment via the pitcure set up screen.
