I have a DMR-ES35V DVD/VCR. Yesterday I recorded a TV show on the VCR and when I tried to play it back there was only snow. The TV is also Panasonic (TC-P42S1).

The DMR-ES35V only has an analog tuner (NTSC). Most TV channels now transmit in digital format (ATSC). Since the remaining analog stations are associated with low-power tuners, the tuner may not have picked up the signal. If you have an aerial antenna directly connected to the DMR-ES35V, it probably didn't find a signal. In that case, you need an OTA ATSC to NTSC converter or a stronger signal for a station giving an NTSC signal.

However, if you tried to record from a set-top box (cable/ OTA ATSC to NTSC converter), then check your connections. Several cable boxes will not transmit the analog signal if it is also sending a HDCP signal (high definition copy protection) to another monitor. (Thus if the TV is connected to a set-top box by an HDMI cable, no analog signal is available on composite video or RF outputs.)

Please add a comment to indicate what your TV source is and whether the source is connected to the DVD/VCR and TV separately or in a daisy-chain fashion.

I hope this helps you identify your recording problem.

Put the main aerial into the set top box, then take a male to female fly lead and connect it to your panasonic, then take another fly lead from the panasonic into the tv.If you have two scart sockets on each unit and the tv you can connect one into the tv from the box and one from the panasonic into the tv,then you can connect the box to the panasonic so you could record from the box.

Is the Remote Control sensor in direct fluorescent lamp light or other strong
sources of light?
Press unit POWER button down over 7 seconds. The POWER indicator goes
out. If the Power was On, the screen will also disappear. After 5 seconds, turn
Power On and operate unit normally. If the steps above do not restore normal
operation, disconnect then reconnect the AC plug and turn the power On.

If that does not work, Panasonic offers free tech support 6 days a week 1-800-211-7262 (pana).
