SOURCE: set top box and remote control
I have the same problem. When I move the 8300HDC away from the TV, or power off the TV, the remote responds. There seems to be some kind of RF interference, which makes no sense since the TV shouldn't emit RF, and the the box should be using IR only for remote input. My TV is a 46" LCD Samsung. Try turning off the TV and see if the 8300HDC responds to powering on and off with the remote.

I have a Motorola cable box and used code # 051. Works great. Can't find a code for DIGISTAR tv though. If anyone has one, shoot it to me at firstname.lastname@example.org.

SOURCE: Universal Remote Control Code
Each remote manufacturer has their own set of codes. There is not one standard code for your TV. You need to get in touch with the maker of the remote.
