Question about Apple iBook G4 1.2GHz 12" w/ Combo Drive Mac Notebook

1 Answer

I've got an iBook G3 with power problems. I will run fine off a battery, but it will not charge. I received and replaced the DC power board, but it would not power up. I got a new AC adaptor (Newer) and when I plug it in to the iBook, it makes a clicking sound and the light on the adaptor flickers with the clicking. It will not turn on. But, it will still boot and run off a battery.A clicking sound not buzzing nose. you have a a green light when you push it half way in , push it all the way and then click, pull it back out and green light comes back very strange. Its not the DC board as i replaced this and same old problem it is as if its shortening out but then resets itself maybe from the power adapter. Any ideas

Problem is with the logic board. It's old man, time to abandon ship for a new mac book 1,000 or a new pc laptop 200-300.

Hi i need help plz, i've my laptop do not power when i plug the ac adapter ther' is no ligth

You may have a DC connector problem:

Symptoms of a broken power jack
1. If you wiggle the power cord or the AC Adapter connector on the back of the laptop, the power LED and battery charge LED start to flicker.
2. Battery will not charge in the laptop.
3. Laptop runs fine off a charged battery.
4. With the AC Adapter connected the laptop appears to be dead.
No power LED or battery charge LED activity.
5. Laptop randomly powers off without any warning.

If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix the problem by re-soldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it

My ibook doesn't want to charging and what should I do? if I want get fix, how much it would be? Thank you.

Test your charger with somebody elses iBook First, if that's not the problem, probably your DC-In module. An alternative way is always try to repair it yourself. There are Mac Repair Guides that show how to open an Macbook. Watch out for the ribbon cables, those tear easily. Replacement parts are usually available on Ebay. There are third party services that can do it for you, like Mac Repair NYC.

A1005 Battery and power supply fine - but not starting

A1005 is an inexact marketing identifier covering pretty much the entire line of G3 iBooks.
Complete failure to start -- unless it is caused by something trivial like a broken start button -- without any startup or error tones, points to basic logic board failure. A machine this stone dead for no apparent reason is unlikely to be revived, and almost certainly not by third-world techs who don't know Macs. It is debatably cost-effective to resuscitate a sub-GHz G3 iBook from such a failure, compared to replacing the unit with another new or used Mac. The drive in the old Mac can be extracted so as to preserve your data, and can be inserted into an external USB or FireWire case to be accessible to a new Mac.

IBook G4 battery charging, but won't power on

Stupid question but did you remember to reconnect the start up switch to the logic board? Also check to make sure you did not break the connector loose from the logic board.

G3 Doesn't power up

Hi,
I,d check that the laptop isn,t in Standby or powersave Mode.
Check the Ram, and re-seat if necessary.
Try the laptop without The Battery.

IBook Clamshell Startup problem after Upgrade

Given that the "power ring" no longer lights up, I am wondering if the DC-in board is mis-connected in some way. No light = no power going to logic board, and no power going to charge the battery.

An alternative test would be to borrow a charged battery from another clamshell. If the machine boots, you know that there's something askew with the DC-in board.

BTW, there are excellent take-apart guides for iBooks at iFixit.com
