Question about Sage WebPlus X2 Full Version Mini Box Developer/Test License for PC

WebPlus X2 Not Publishing Correctly

I designed a site in WebPlus X2 and in preview mode, the site is fine. When I uploaded the site, most of my navigation is not appearing, pictures are distorted or missing, and other items are disappearing. I loaded the site a few times and everytime, something new would be wrong and the other issues were ok. Is this a program problem, corrupted file or something else altogether?

    Hi Jennifer!

It's no a resolution issue and I have looked at the site on a number of computers. It's not just photos, my navigation is all wrong, items are missing. I've loaded the site a number of times and the problems with the photos aren't the same every time I load, but there is always an issue with the navigation.

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

    Hi Jennifer!

I will post the site in a few minutes www. pearfusion. com

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

also what is strange is that the site appears differently everytime I load it, but there is always a problem with the navigation buttoms

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

I honestly don't think it's a photo problem - sometimes they appear and sometimes they don't when I load it. Currently, on the first page all of the photos are included, but all of my navigation buttons have the "X"

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

Should I embed the images instead? Also, do you think the godaddy thing will fix the navigation?

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

Great! I'll embed the images. A friend of mine is hosting it through 1and1

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

I just reloaded and the photo situation is better (except one image that is distorted), but the navigation is still wrong

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

What is also odd, is that some of my text formatting is incorrect and it seems that some of the hidden html is ending up at the top of the page like this: ="#000000" style="background: #ffffff; text-align:center; height:650px;">

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

My friend checked out 1 and 1 and this is what he got... http://faq.1and1.com/websites/build_webs...

    any other suggestions?

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

That's what I'm getting as well. I don't know that it's totally a server problem. I have my own website that I based the Pearfusion site off of and mine works just fine.

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

    Thank you!!!!

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

Why does my site load fine? It's basically the same site...

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

    and I'm not using frontpage...

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

Also, the pics are not my problem - the navigation buttons, text issues and html issues

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

Also, the navigation buttons are generated by WebPlus, so I'm guessing that they are embedded

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

I'm not understanding. obviously, i'm a novice....so, i need to rebuild the site in 1and1's program?

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

I think I'm confused again...This is what I get when I log onto the ftp site:

    FTP root at ftp.pearfusion.com
To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer, click Page, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer.

Do I copy the entire WebPlus2 file? Don't kill me please

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

So, copy page by page and copy over? I'm completely lost (again, don't kill me)...I don't see a copy function on the root directory ftp...

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

That's where I'm getting confused....Is there somewhere in WebPlus 2 that has a list of the files that I can copy? When I open the site, I get the design aspect. Does that make sense?

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

In the site manager, there is a place that shows all of the files including the root, but I can't figure out how to copy the files

  • paula847 Nov 19, 2009

my only options are rename or remove it...no copying... i also tried ctrl c and goin to the ftp and doing ctrl v - no luck

  • paula847 Nov 20, 2009

I might have found the problem....I can't locate that file. The file for my website (under web in my documents) is appearing with it's pages, but not the pearfusion files.

  • paula847 Nov 20, 2009

It's odd - can't find the files - i've searched the entire system and can't find the sitemap or index file for pearfusion...only mediacandy. Is there a way to export the files?

  • paula847 Nov 20, 2009

I searched for every file, including the index and sitemap and none of the files are pulling up. It's almost like webplus never generated the files. Any ideas? I'm going to lose my mind...

  • paula847 Nov 20, 2009

Do you think I can do anything with the Export images Manager? I am now desperate for a better solution....

  • paula847 Nov 20, 2009

I am looking for a WebPlus X2 expert. I designed a site and when I published it I found that it's a mess - the navigation isn't fully pulling up, html that is supposed to be hidden is showing up on the site, pics are missing, etc. It also seems that all of the html files that are supposed to be on my computer (including the index.html) are gone. Any ideas?

  • paula847 Nov 20, 2009

    Hi

I am using the automatic publishing to the web. Also, I can't find the .html files (I don't know if the files are being generated by webplus) to copy them to the ftp. That's my big problem.

I'm not sure if there is a demo for webplus x2...

  • paula847 Nov 20, 2009

I've been trying to solve it for 2 days... I appreciate all you are doing!

  • paula847 Nov 21, 2009

The images are loading, just not appearing and the navigation is missing on many pages.

Hello there,
First of all which web browser are you using to see the site ??
Second, try to see if you use a ordinary FTP client if it working better, you can try with FTP Zilla Client to upload your internet page. Simply first store the web page to a folder and then try to use the FTP Client to upload the the web page.
FileZilla Client (FTP) download link : http://filezilla-project.org/

Third, you must see if your web host are compatible with WebPlus X2, IF NOT then you must try to find one web host that are compatible with the program, you see some web hosts are not compatible with some web site programs, so they show the site in a funny way.

the last try you can do is try to chance the pictures in another format ex if it is PNG try to convert them to JPG instaed, you can also try to minimize them.

Here in this forum you can ask for further info about your problem :

Hope that helps
Have a nice weekend

Are you sure you have uploaded the image files as well? The reason why images are not showing is that your source is pointing to a file that is not existing. OR the images must be uploaded in the wrong path. Try to re-upload the images.

Paula Have you tried not using the inbuilt publishing function and just gathered the files and FTP'd them to the server? I use XARA and the publish mode on that did things similar towhat you have described. I do my own publish now , just export it to the desktop and then use FTP to do my own thing

I have not used this program for sometime, but i would try and assist by downloading the demo and trying it out, or does the demo limit what you can do by say, not allowing publish to function. Would i need a registration code to fully test the functions for you?
let me know if my suggestion improves the situation or if you would like me to run a test site on the software

Hello Paula, thank you for using Fixya's services.

Your site may be perfectly fine but the way you view it depends on your computer resolution. A quick test to see if this is true, is to view the published website from another computer. Most resolutions are defaulted to 800 X 600. You can change this by right clicking on desktop, choose properties and appearance tab.

There is also a universal viewing for different web browsers such as Fire-fox, Internet Explorer, Safari, etc. Check the advanced options and see if this is set to "enable" as this will make a huge difference when viewing the web-page.

Also, keep in mind that with the release of Internet Explorer 8.0, many websites appear as abnormal. On the top of the browser (next to the url address box) is an icon that switches compatibility mode off/on. If you are using IE 8.0, you may want to toggle the compatibility mode and see if this makes a difference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Would you mind posting the website and I can take a look at the CSS code for you? Please type it like this, example...

www . whatever . com with spaces, so as not to attract spammers. I will see what is going on with the code and it may be a quick fix!

    Paula,

Very nice site! I am going to take a look in my editor, I use Microsoft Expression web. Give me about 15 minutes or so and I will comment back.

A few things, right off, I see:

Missing pictures. It seems the software is not correctly publishing some of the missing pictures, which is why they have the red X appearing next to them.

    Check a couple of things.

make sure all the pictures that need to be on the website are in your directory file website. You can check this by opening uu my documents and see if a file has been created for the website. It may be located somewhere other than I suggested but you can find it if you do a search for a picture name and find the patch. It will look something like this:

    C:\Users\Jennifer DeLaCruz\Documents\My Web Sites

make sure that all the pictures are there, in that folder and not in sub-folders.

I will be back in a few to see what I find.

  • Jennifer DeLaCruz
    Jennifer DeLaCruz Nov 19, 2009

    Also, check these settings:

Log into your hosted account, example godaddy.com and make sure that Frontpage extensions is enabled on the host ends. The instructions in this article will show you how on most dedicated host sites. Scroll down to:

Enable FrontPage Server Extensions on a Web Site
Even though you are not using Frontpage, you are using a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) publisher and enabling the extensions will help!

  • Jennifer DeLaCruz
    Jennifer DeLaCruz Nov 19, 2009

The CSS file looks good, there is no interference with any tables, etc.

I looked online and seems there is an update for your product as well. You can sign up (for an account) and grab the update.

Sometimes, even if the pictures are in the FTP site (publised) the links can be broken. I have had problems with this before and found placing them in the parent folder with my HTML files (instead of a subdirectory) helps.

  • Jennifer DeLaCruz
    Jennifer DeLaCruz Nov 19, 2009

I am 85% positive it has to do with the server extentions!

Yes, embedding the image helps because it keeps the image source in the file directory.

    Who is hosting your website?

  • Jennifer DeLaCruz
    Jennifer DeLaCruz Nov 19, 2009

You should be able to send your friend an email and ask them to enable the server extensions as they would know exactly what this means. Feel free to add additional questions and I will assist.

    Hope I helped!

    Jennifer

  • Jennifer DeLaCruz
    Jennifer DeLaCruz Nov 19, 2009

Are the navigation buttons embedded as well?

    It's getting there!

Here's what I see on my end!

Looks like the picture is there but trying to load? Maybe the server isn't fast enough to load it?

  • Jennifer DeLaCruz
    Jennifer DeLaCruz Nov 19, 2009

This explains allot! This is why everytime you publish, you see something different. Let me check some alternatives. be right back.

  • Jennifer DeLaCruz
    Jennifer DeLaCruz Nov 19, 2009

The only other alternative I can see is to manually upload the files to the FTP site:

    http://faq.1and1.com/websites/build_webs...

    Or

Use the web builder that is implemented in the 1&1 admin site.

Maybe you can try adding just the pictures that are "missing" via the manual mode and the path will be correct.

This is so tedious though but once you get the site up, usually there will be little to no change (except for prices, etc.)

One more alternative would be to transfer the domain to another host. I use Yahoo! Business and it supports all publishing softwares (Linux hosting sites can be different). Of course, this would be last resort and not sure if it is possible with a locked domain.

  • Jennifer DeLaCruz
    Jennifer DeLaCruz Nov 19, 2009

Your site loads fine on your computer because the HTML is pointing to the pictures which are on the computer. So, when you view the page, everything is in tact.

Now, once you transfer (publish) the site, the paths are getting messed up and/or the photos are not transfering over. The background images in the navigations are missing but not the text. Publish means to transfer everything (pictures, css, scripts, java, tables, etc) over to the hosted site. The hosted site keeps this in the FTP area (you can see yours by typing in ftp.yourspace.com).

Many programs use the same process as Frontpage (server extensions) so even though you are not using that software (frontpage), it will publish (act) the same way.

Information from your computer, to the FTP site is being lost somewhere during the transfer. The question is why? I truly believe it has to do with the extensions.

On the second page (about me) the table is also messegd up. It is shrunk in (extension issues).

  • Jennifer DeLaCruz
    Jennifer DeLaCruz Nov 19, 2009

The whole "website hosting" is complicating. It took me many years to learn I experienced the same issues with my site when I first published. I purchased Microsoft web expressions to make the process so much easier.

It's so difficult to explain via a messge board...lol...

    I would recommend this:

Open the FTP site by placing the ftp.yourspace.com in the adress bar. Enter the same username and password you use to publish site. It will open and you will see exactly what is on your computer, folders, images etc.

Go to your computer where your entire website is on the computer.

Copy everything from your computer to the FTP site.

You will see many files such as .HTML, .JPEG, .CSS, etc.

    paste them all!

This way, you know everything is on there.

When you use a software to "publish" that is all it is doing is transfering the copy to the FTP (online) site.

  • Jennifer DeLaCruz
    Jennifer DeLaCruz Nov 19, 2009

Ooops, I forgot to add one small detail! Delete the website before going in the FTP site or you will be confused...lol.

Make it clear, the same way you had it before publishing. Then go back to FTP site and copy, paste.

  • Jennifer DeLaCruz
    Jennifer DeLaCruz Nov 19, 2009

Copy and paste everything inside the web2 file (not the whole file). So, double click on that file and everything that is inside copy over.

  • Jennifer DeLaCruz
    Jennifer DeLaCruz Nov 19, 2009

You can highlight all the files by clicking the first one while holding down the CTRL button, scroll down to last file and holding down shift and CTRL and then click the last (to highlight all at once).

    Or

You can do one by one. You will have to right click on file on computer, copy. right click on FTP and paste.

  • Jennifer DeLaCruz
    Jennifer DeLaCruz Nov 19, 2009

You will need to open the file documents, not the files in the software.

So, close the software and find the folder that keeps the files. Such as:

    C:\Users\Jennifer DeLaCruz\Documents\My Web Sites

  • Jennifer DeLaCruz
    Jennifer DeLaCruz Nov 20, 2009

Run a search for this on your computer:

    pearfusionstory.html

  • Jennifer DeLaCruz
    Jennifer DeLaCruz Nov 20, 2009

Well, if it were me, I would publish website (as you have) and try and get the best possible publish (where it is really close). Then go into the web builder that they offer and see if you can fix the navigation and missing pictures. Better than starting from scratch and losing the nice design you have!

if you changed your operating system to Vista or Windows 7 there may be a compatibility issue. try to see if there is by a driver update from Corel. Also try to enable the compatibility mode by clicking on the program and checking properties and running the compatibility mode.

You'll have to purchase the software or find someone who has a disk locally. You'll still need your product key, though.

Serif Software's WebPlus is a free web publishing application that may be worth looking into as well.
