SOURCE: Canon ZR200

I just started to have the same problem, 5 grey lines and intermittent audio. I the settings and i tried different tapes and No Joy. Then I tried to record onto an old tapes to see if the new recording would do it and the camera showed me a strange icon for exposure. I set the exposure back to 'Easy' and Viola, I recorded and the playback is now clean. Even old tapes play OK now...

The settings must have gotten wacked somehow. I glad it worked out, good luck.

SOURCE: very frustrating : did not finalize; forgot which brand the cam was

There's no guaranteed method for importing DVD camcorder movies into the Windows XP version Windows Movie Maker and editing them. Windows XP doesn't include the required DVD decoder software by default. Many of the consumer DVD software solutions available don't consistently work with every camcorder because some of the software packages don't include both the necessary video and audio decoders. The most reliable solution I've found for editing the files created with DVD camcorders in Windows Movie Maker is Elecard MPEG Player. Even if you already have another DVD playback solution on the computer, this method may fail without installing the Elecard software.
Before you begin, download Elecard MPEG Player and install it. You may need to reboot your computer to make sure Windows Movie Maker can access the necessary video and audio decoders.
Preparing to Edit DVD Camcorder Files
Either insert the finalized DVD from the camcorder in the computer's DVD drive or connect the camcorder to the computer with a USB cable. Copy the finalized .VOB files from the camcorder DVD to the hard drive.
After copying the .VOB files to the computer, rename the .VOB files to .MPEG. For instance, if the original file name was VTS_01_1.VOB, it should now be VTS_01_1.MPEG or VTS_01_1.mpeg.
Importing MPEG Files into Windows Movie Maker
After renaming the DVD camcorder file from .VOB to .MPEG, you can import it into Windows Movie Maker just like you would any other video clip by choosing File > Import Into Collections.
While I can't guarantee this method will work for every DVD camcorder file, it should work in most cases.
Additional Tip: If your DVD camcorder movie was shot with a 16:9 aspect ratio, you can change the project preferences from 4:3 to 16:9 from the menu at Tools > Options > Preferences.
If you have the budget to purchase additional video editing software, I strongly recommend Easy Media Creator as the best solution for editing DVD Camcorder files.

I have Vista. I used a free download "DVD Decrypter" and it converted the files. I then just used Window's Media to view them.

Movie recording disabled

You have to "close session" on the disk before it will play anywhere else but the camera. Same goes for a CD or DVD you make on your PC. It will play on your PC ok but not on any other player

I have a Sony Digital Handycam DCR-TRV 140 NTSC from many years ago. It is my fathers and he would like me to back the videos up on the computer, however he does not have any of the software that came with...

Easiest was is to hook camcorder with dvd recorder and burn dvds, make sure to finalize each dvd so it can be playback on any dvd player.
Put dvd in computer and transfer movie files for further editing, if required.
Good luck.

How to make copies???????

Not sure whether you have a PC hardware or software problem. Do you have a DVD drive on your PC ? If you have, then this should work
1. Finalise the mini DVD on the DC210.
2. The mini DVD will have one folder on it called VIDEO_TS. Copy this folder to a new folder on your PC hard drive.
3. Put a writable DVD into your PC DVD drive.
4. Copy the folder you created in step 2 to your DVD.
Job finished !

If you want to edit the vieo content you'll need to get some video editing software.
