Have you checked for any damage on the lid switch at all? Washers won't engage the cycle you're having issues with if the lid switch is faulty. usually a magnet or plastic piece that pushes down the piece to engage agitation.

My washer wont spin out

see this causes: God bless you
Water Level Control / Pressure Switch
his is the most common reason a washer will agitate but not spin. To check this on most , with no water you should have continuity on pins 7&15. With the tub full 7&16 should have continuity. This video walks you thru checking another type of switch.

Lid Switch
This can be the problem for the washer not spinning . Most whirlpool styles this will effect both agitate and spin but some models will still agitate but not spin. This is easy to check. You will need to remove the switch, this varies with model type but the testing will be the same. When the lid is closed the switch should have continuity when the lid is opend the switch should have no continuity. If it differs replace the Lid Switch.

Timer
To check the timer you will need to refer to the wiring diagram or disassemble to access the motor. Check the leads from the timer to the motor when turned to a wash cycle this should have 120 volts. If not replace the Timer, if it does the timer is not the problem.

Motor
To check the motor you will need to disassemble the washer to access the motor. First you can check the motor windings, to do this remove the plug and connect ohmeter to terminals. Refer to the tech sheet or service manual for the proper reading. Check motor for shorts by connecting ohmeter to terminals and motor housing should have no continuity. Connect voltmeter to motor wire connector and check for voltage. You should have 120 volts, if you do and the motor does not run replace the motor. If it does not have power the problem is elsewhere.

Belt
If your washer is a belt drive type make sure the belt is tight. Check for black soot from belt wear. Replace if it has excessive wear or broke.

Motor Coupler
This is a fairly common problem with direct drive machines but inexpensive and easy to replace. The Motor Coupler transfers power from the motor to thetransmission. The following video will walk you through the replacement of the Motor Coupler.

Transmission
The transmission does not usually fail. To check this on a direct drive remove the motor and then turn tub inside. If it spins freely with no noise theproblem is elsewhere. If it is noisy it needs replacing this is expensive and depending on the age of your machine you may not want to replace it. On a belt drive remove the belts and spin tub.

Washer wont drin or spin

The problem is one of several things. Normally if the machine won't spin out
the problem is the lid switch. (They may seem ok but are often broken). Second is
that the timer point has become burnt and pulled off the timer switch itself.

If the washer agitates but doesn't spin, then replace the lid switch. Otherwise
I would first check the connector to the motor (Underneath the machine) for
obvious burn spot on the connector (the high speed pin) and if that is ok
then the timer has had a contact point fail and needs replacement. This machine is
direct drive so inspect the coupler when checking the connector. Hope this helps.

Kenmore washer 110.24642300 - the motor makes no sound. It will fill but that's it. No draining, spin or agitate. We replaced the lid switch about two months ago. Could it be a faulty lid switch?

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.24642300

The first thing to try is to try a different cycle.

If the washer works, the problem points to a bad timer.

Second, it is possible that you had a defective lid switch. I'd try to by-pass the switch.

This is a Whirlpool PDF on how these washers operate. It has a diagram on jumping the switch as well as a detailed section on how the transmission works.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

It also has a troubleshooting guide.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=913ba652cd504fb162f87d892bcb427b

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part.

Third, Try to set the timer to a spin cycle.

These washers use a reversing motor to run the drain and spin cycles.

If the lid switch is ok and the washer will drain and spin by starting in the spin cycle, the problem points to a timer.

Beyond that, the problem points to a motor connection area. See the troubleshooting guide and diagrams in the Whirlpool Service Manual.

No spin - agitate

Hi,

You just do this

  • Test the lid switch
  • Inspect the motor coupler
  • Inspect the drover belt (belt drive only)
  • Inspect under the washer for soot (clutch)
  • Test the motor
  • Inspect the pulley
  • Test the transmission
  • Inspect the Agitator
  • Inspect the pump coupling
  • Test the Water switch level
Good luck !!!

Agitates but no spinning or draining

Check the lid switch for continuity.
Open the control panel, disconnect the lid switch from the top of the cabinet.
Use a volt/ohm meter set for continuity. Insert the probes into the connector attached to the cabinet. With the lid closed it should get a reading. If no reading replace the switch.
While it is open you can make a jumper wire and jump out the lid switch wire going to the timer. Then turn the dial to spin and turn it on. If it spins it verifies a bad lid switch. If not, you have a bad timer.
