Question about Samsung PLH403W 40" Rear Projection Television

Samsung Tantus (SP-43J8PF) Has Green Tinge - Easy fix?

One day my Samsung Tantus (Model SP-43J8PF) rear projection tv had this green hue to it. Most of the other colours are there but everything is greenish. It is really bad for night (dark) scenes as you cant make out the subtle differences in shading etc and just looks green. I think it has also (might have) got slightly worse over the last 3 weeks although I'm not certain.

All the bulbs are working, its like the green is overpowering the other colours almost.
I'm ok at basic electronics but Im pretty lost when it comes to a tv. Any suggestions on where to start or what might be wrong is appreciated.

And is it worth fixing too?

Thanks for that but I cant get into the service menu. I have tried both with the TV off and on, But it fails to bring it up. Are there any other service codes?

  • fixta128 Nov 19, 2009

I have tried accessing the service menu but it doesnt work.
I have tried with the TV on and OFF but no good. Its seems as I hit the 1 key the TV starts turning on, which seems to be ruining the sequence.

Are there any other service codes?

OK - The Correct Service Menu Code with the TV off is: DISPLAY - MENU - MUTE - POWER. Now i made some good adjustments under the G2-Adjust menu, but is doesn't appear to be saving them. I tried hitting Mute x2 then Power but It must be something else. Although somehow the picture is looking better (but the G2-Adjust) Picture is really good and colourful and bright etc but then going out of the G2-Adjust option takes it back to the 'normal' picture.

Many Thanks I am slowly getting there!

You may try to get into the service menu and adjust screens/drives level(procedure below). But first turn the color off completely and adjust you brightness to mid-range, what you`ll want to do is a grey raster or bring it as black and white as you can while adjusting the red/green /blue guns or tubes. Also get a piece of paper and pen because you`ll want to record the original values of the items you may change. You want to go into the adjustment menu. Hope this will help Good luck
In quick sequence on the remote press:
MUTE - 1 - 8 - 2 - POWER buttons.

The TV will turn On with the Service Menu displayed.
ADJUSTMENT - TEST PATTERN - SET OPTION BYTE - FACTORY RESET

Select the function and use the VOL+ button to enter.
Save settings and exit by pushing MUTE twice then POWER .

Try thi one and let me know.
It doesn`t say much but it might give you a few more buttons to play with.

    - The buttons are active in the service mode.
    1. Remote - Control Key : Power, Arrow Up, Arrow Down, Arrow Left
Arrow Right, Menu, Enter, Number Key(0~9)
    2. Function - Control Key : Power, CH +, CH -, VOL +, VOL -, Menu, TV/VIDEO(Enter)
