Question about RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8100

2 Answers

For some reason, I can no longer hear or be heard when making a call. The call goes through and the phone works perfectly only in the speaker mode. When I go to applications, profiles and try to change the options from loud to vibrate, etc.,the "Off" option/line at the bottom of the choices has a red X over the speaker icon. I've pulled the battery and rebooted twice but nothing changes. I've scrolled down to the advanced options bar and none of those choices seems to help. Can you advise ASAP.

I'm a real novice ... where would I find the firmware to download?

I'm just feeling this is a key stroke solution.

One minute it's fine, the next it's DOA.

    Anyone else have a suggestion?

Sorry to hear about all your issues. I would recommend reloading the OS or update the firmware on the device.

But before doing it, you need to make sure to back-up all the files using the Desktop Sync Manager of BlackBerry. Then "wipe" the BlackBerry before reloading the OS. Unfortunately, you may need to contact the manufacturer because they know which version of software that will work with your phone.

After this, the problem should be resolved. Have a good day!

What I would try is upgrading the firmware as this will reload the modules that control the microphone and internal speaker.

If that doesnt work then the speaker itself is the problem. The speakerphone is a seperate speaker.

If a new speaker doesnt work then there is a fault with the phone and you should try warranty on it.

sorry for 3 solutions, just wanted to cover all possibilities.

this website will have any updates available. You will need a cable to connect phone to your PC or laptop.

my brother has a blackberry and his did the same thing and they had him try the above steps and his ended up having to be replaced.

Well, my lg chocolate touch model (VX8575) got the speaker clogged up with melted chocolate. i cannot hear phone calls, nor can i hear any sounds coming from that speaker. but when i plug in earbuds, they...

The first solution would be to try to remove all the chocolate from the speaker. This may include opening the phone case and cleaning the speaker directly. Note, this will void any manufacturer's warranty.
Chances are that the speaker is no longer working at all. It has most likely been damage too severely. If you can handle using only the earbuds, than that may be the best solution. This model phone also has bluetooth, so you can use a bluetooth accessory as well. Unfortunately, it appears that your speaker is beyond the point of being saved.

My daughter has an lg 5300 phone - she can call but can't receive or hear the person she is calling..

The reason she can call out and the person she is calling can hear her is because the mouth piece is working perfectly.

The reason she can't receive a call or hear the person she is calling is simply because the speaker of the phone is faulty.

  1. remove the battery cover, the battery and the sim,
  2. Use the screwdriver or tweezers to gently pry off the RF grommet located on the antenna cap,
  3. then you can split the phone open carefully and try to locate the speaker
  4. by lifting up the panel below the speaker,
  5. carefully disconnect the speaker from the board,
  6. and replace it with a new one,
  7. reverse the whole procedure for reassembly
take care

I have a LG KP501 but the sound seems to have stopped working. I can't hear anyone or anything but people can hear me. The volume adjust button works but no sound. Help! One minute it was fine and then...

The reason your phones sound stopped working is because there is a problem with the speaker.

once the person on the other side can hear you, it simply means the michophone of the phone is woeking perfectly.

Since it is clear that it is the speaker of the phone that has a fault, all you have to do is to replace it and the problem is solved.

To fix the problem, get the appropriate screwdriver,

unscrew the phone, see the kind of speaker that is in it and get exactly the same type of speaker for replacement of the old one.

Get a pin tip soldering iron, and detach the old earpiece carefully, and ensure there is no damage done on the board of the phone.

replace the speaker with the new speaker you got for the phone. Carefully couple the phone back together, and turn it on. Make a phone call on it to see if it is working.

If the process of repair is difficult for you, get a earpiece or bluetooth device for the phone.

Take care

Phone will not ring, only vibrates even tho I use the side volumn control to choose ring volume one, or two, or three or four, or five. None work to make it ring

The reason your phone isnt ringing out is because the speaker of your phone is faulty.

The sounds made by your phone(including the ringing tone) is heard through the speaker and once it is faulty, you will not hear any sound coming from your phone.

The only solution is to have your speaker replaced.

Internal speaker not working, on speaker phone can hear conversation but when speaker phone turned off get no sound from the earpiece

No need to worry thats means the internal speaker is no longer in a working condition. You just need to replace the internal speaker and after that every thing will b perfect. But before replacing the speaker just press it little on the top some times the speaker gets lose and stops working so check it before replacing. I hope this will help in solving your problem.

Go and contact to your nearest samsung dealer and get the phone repaired. The problem may be with the connections to the speaker from the microphone.

Person I call can't hear me

make sure you haven't hit your mute button somehow. This may be also in your menu que. These problems are really easy or really messed up. If it isn't the mute problem then there is probably a problem with the speaker mike. See if you can take it for exchange if this is it cause it isn't worth fixing$$$
