It could be one of two things, either the battery is defective and cannot hold a full charge (normally batteries show a charge up to 95% -100%), or the motherboard is defective and not fully charging the battery. Do you notice if the AC adpter (charger) gets really hot when plugged in to the LT? This could be a sign that the charger may be bad too. When replacing or troubleshooting, start with the least expensive and/or most obvious cause, such as the AC adapter or battery first to see if that doesn't fix the problem, since a replacement motherboard would be the most expensive. Last thing you want to consider is to see if the LT has the most recent BIOS or firmware version; may irrelevant, but worth a check.
